Obviously Buckner is committed but he wants to take some officials. Early it was said he would want to visit just to see some games, but I wonder if he is 100% committed why he would still visit a school just to see the campus, especially a campus he has already seen. Let us know if you have any details on these two prospects.

Buchanan seems to be down to Illinois and Vanderbilt, with Purdue also in the running. Buckner will sign with the Illini even though he may take some visits.

From Scout:
Michael Buchanan, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound three-star defensive end/outside linebacker from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Ill., has already taken official visits to Illinois (Nov. 14), Purdue (Nov. 21) and Vanderbilt (Nov. 8) and says those remain his three favorite programs.
"I'm still looking at the same schools," Buchanan said. "I want to go where I can be the most successful and comfortable. I'll be taking my final two visits and hopefully will just know where I want to go. Right now they are all pretty even."
The final two visits Buchanan wants to take are to California and No. 21 Michigan State, but doesn't have dates set up yet. "They'll be in January for sure," he said.
The school that has impressed Buchanan the most this season on the field is Michigan State, another school he'd like to visit. "They had a real big turn around," he said. "They've really improved a lot in the past two years since coach Mark Dantonio took over."
Buchanan finished his senior season (4-5) with over 100 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and five sacks.
He says he's considering majoring in sports medicine and reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 22 ACT.

Looks like State has really set their sights on JUCO DE Travis Stephens (6' 3", 253 lbs., 4.6 seconds forty). According to Rivals he has an offer from MSU. He is scheduled to graduate from Blinn Jr. College (Brenham, TX) in December, so he could enroll @ MSU and participate in Spring practice.

his latest Rivals article states he is still setting his final 2 visits and MSU is still being considered. It was same old story ... so dont know if the staff has changed their tune since getting Freeman or not. He doesnt have an offer yet and I believe is still behind Ankrah and maybe even Nunez...if we are even taking another DE.

Football buzz: Tim O'Halloran of rivals.com reports that North Chicago defensive end Anthony Wells has made an oral commitment to Northern Illinois. Homewood-Flossmoor defensive end Michael Buchanan is likely to announce his college decision next month from among Illinois, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Michigan State and California.
If Buchanan chooses the Champaign route, he would be reunited with former H-F teammates Supo Sanni and Russell Ellington.

They didn't mention that he would be playing behind about 8 other DE's that Ill. has got over the last two years. He's choosing between MSU, Ill. Vandy and Purdue, Cal is out. I think this comes down to if he wants to play early (and in a bowl game) or play with his teammates from hs. It might be hard to get him from Ill. but MSU has the playing time available.

Illinois has 3 DEs from the 2008 class (none in 2007) - Glenn Foster, Whitney Mercilus and Ugo Uzodinma. They also have 2 commits this year - Tank Carradine and Craig Drummond (who may end up at DT).

I just threw "about 8" out there, I wasn't sure of the number. Either way we have much less depth. I don't follow Ill. football much, but in 2007 Steve Matas is a DE, though I know positions schange. My point is that over the last 4 years you have at least 8 DE's from your classes, while MSU has 5 that are still at the position or on the team. Also, Buchanan would be the most highly touted DE out of all of them. With that said, I still think as of right now Ill. will probably get him, though that could change when he visits MSU.

No, and I have no idea what MSU has either. Matas never enrolled, decided he didn't want to play football any more. 4 of the DEs are Jr/Sr so they won't really affect his decision too much. And Illinois rotates DL heavily, so they will use 4-5 DEs regularly.

Says that his final four are Michigan State, Illinois, Purdue, and Vanderbilt (in no order) and that he will wait until after he takes a visit to Michigan State to make his final decision.

not sure if he has an offer or not. Some sites claim an offer (e.g. recruiting planet)
Would be awesome to get two solid DEs this class.

if he's that good, rotating him out is bad...I don't think he'd like that.

Both Scout and Rivals show him as offered. Where does spartaspartan's "no offer" thing come from?

Probably just the fact that the thread title does not indicate an offer. I think it's pretty clear that he does currently have an offer.

well, he will be rotated at any school, including MSU.
We didn't do it as much this year b/c we were thin on the D-line
