No way. I hate 4 star defensive ends, especially when we desperately need one to fill out this recruiting class and he could be joined by a potential 5-star prospect in 2010.

Yeah, I understand the nancy-boys here and their accusations about the Zooker, but this seems like an odd time to bring those up.

Apparently all fan bases have their D-bags, there are some spartan fans and you are proof that there are illini fans (Disregard this statement IlliniJ if you are 12 years old or younger). I think Zook is a great recruiter and is able to sell prospects on potential rather than substance. The record of Zook over 4 years is 18 wins I believe. Dantonio has done that in almost two years. Though recruits don't choose schools solely based on their records, but I give Zook some respect as a recruiter, he just hasn't proven much as a head coach. I think that some fans are surprised that he is still able to get highly regarded recruits based on his performance as a coach.
The only thing about Zook that I find kind of cheap is that he offers almost every prospect in the country. There are 12 year olds with offers from the Illini right now. This gives Ill. an advantage with some players IMO, but Dantonio gives a full evaluation of players and that's why I think we are able to get very good players regardless of their star ranking. Congrats on your current class and I hope you get Buchanan, because we are more than willing to take Drummond from you guys.

Hell yes! A 4 star kid with incredibly physical tools at arguably our position of biggest need - is there a question? Let Ted Gill get inside his head a little bit and he'll be a consistent monster.

New article on Scout from Trieu:
Scout.com: Drummond Back on the Market
Not going to post anything else from the article, but I doubt Allen minds me sharing that Drummond's visit to Ole Miss is scheduled for the 30th.
With that in mind, it looks like that if we're going to get a visit, it's this weekend or never.

I put MSU's odds of landing him at less than 10%, fair?

I have no idea. What we know now is as follows:
1) 's in Illinois this week working on him.
2) His decommitment from Illinois has everything to do with coaching turnover, not academics as we were initially led to believe.
3) He wanted to enroll for Spring semester. Not sure if that's still possible at MSU or any of the other places he's considering.
4) We're not actively pursuing anyone else, so he's got the full attention of the entire staff (outside of whatever attention they're still paying to Jairus Jones and Henry Conway).
Hope we hear something on very short order, because like I said above, there's only two weekends untill signing day, and he'll be in Oxford next weekend, so this weekend is our only chance for a visit, unless he's not signing on 2/4.

New DE Simpkins visiting this weekend. I don't know much of him and havent heard of him until today. Possible that Drummond is not in play or Freeman is not working out

Nothing concrete, but there were rumors that he isn't on campus while others say he is. No one has really been able to confirm it though, at least that I have seen.

If this writer gives us any indication of the academic level at Ole Miss then I would most assuredly say yes. Drummond wants to enroll early and they started classes just a couple days ago. Drummond would be fully qualified and could've probably enrolled early at Ill., though under a different major. I don't know the credibility of this article either, if his visit was moved to the 30th and he visits MSU then we still have a chance. This is unlikely if we can't get him to enroll early, which is the main reason that he decommitted from Ill. Simpkins seems like a good prospect that could get an offer when he visits.

You believe too much of what you read on the internet. Ohio St started that "Zook has offered 200 kids" crap because of his success on their turf, and it's simply not true.

Hey "punk", that has nothing to do with anything "shaddy[sic]", it has to do with the fact that he has a bunch of correspondence courses that Illinois admissions won't accept. He's blaming the coaching change at DL, which is his prerogative, I guess.

When compared to other schools and looking on any of the recruiting sites Ill. consistently offers many more prospects. This has worked well for Ill. Zook really seems to offer many players very early, resulting in being their first offer, to get an advantage. Though don't claim that this isn't a common practice by Zook. Many Illini fans have no problem with this because it has mostly worked, but don't deny the fact that he offers many prospects and offers them very early. Also, you don't have defend this practice because it has helped bring in good talent to Ill. even though the results haven't been there. Zook has done a good job recruiting at Ill. and continues to bring in good talent.

He was never going to qualify at a Big Ten school. It was all about academics and core classes. The MSU staff poured over his transcripts and saw there was no way he would qualify. SEC schools are much easier to qualify for entry than most conferences around the country along with the Big East and Big 12. MSU quickly arranged a visit by VA DE Clinton Simpkins for this week-end because they realized Drummond would never qualify.
