He is an impressive looking young man and as a high school prospect already possesses the ideal type size you would like in a defensive end. He is a tall thickly built kid who on film looks to have a tremendous wing span. He is a kid who could develop into a stud run defender. He reminds us some of 2007 prospect Sidell Corley. Drummond has an adequate get-off. He needs to crowd the ball more and can be a little lazy in stance at times. What makes him such a dangerous player is his reach and his ability to use that reach to his advantage. He consistently brings his hands and creates separation. He will engage, separate, and locate the ball and play off that. Will flash the ability to fire out of his stance, shoot his hands, and derive power from the hips and when he does that it is impressive and he can knock a blocker back on his heels. He does a good job of squeezing down. Displays good short-area change-of-direction skills. He has good speed, but is not a kid that will consistently run plays down, rather he is a point of attack player who makes you run away from him. Can seem a little rigid when you see him move in space. He displays solid recognition skills. Takes good angles in pursuit, but can be a bit of an arm tackler. His reach makes him a dangerous player in passing situations. He will use his hands to punch and will work at times to the up-field shoulder. Needs to deepen his pass rush arsenal and work to attack half-a-man more. Drummond is a good player who could be a beast against the run. With his size he could also be a kid that can slide down inside and play some tackle and could be more dangerous there in passing situations. Good looking prospect with upside.

Notes

Uncertainty regarding his commitment to Illinois. Quoted saying he would, and would not attend Illinois in mid-January 2009. Official Visits: Illinois - October 17th, Wisconsin - October 24th. No. 67-rated overall Class of 2009 prospect prior to injury senior year. 2008: Sat out senior year with a high ankle sprain. Sustained a broken foot in summer of 2008. 2007: Registered 22 sacks. All-state and all-area selection. Also being recruited by Miami, Ohio State, Florida, USC, Minnesota...

Come on down big fellow

We got plenty of room a for a talented guy like this at MSU. A January 30th visit would be a great way to end your recruiting process.

Meant to post this right after I made the thread, but I couldn't get into my own thread! (thanks to whichever mod fixed it for me):

Doesn't get any more credible on free boards than diehard.

This tells me two things regarding MSU football. One, the coaches are willing to do everything necessary to bring in the talent needed (ie. Coach D in Chicago doing what he can to get Drummond). Two, that we REALLY need help at DE. Even if we get Gholston we need 2-3 more good prospects that can help. If we get the last visit, Jan. 30th, from Drummond it could get interesting. Scout changed his profile a few days ago to Ill., MSU and Ole Miss. Hopefully, we can get him to visit MSU and see the PT that is available.

The reason for his decommitment from Ill. is that he tried to enroll early and was denied, though he should be fine for the fall semester. Also, his recruiting coach has left for another position. These are the two reasons that I have read about. We should know more about where we stand after he visits Ole Miss this weekend. If we get a visit it will at least make it interesting for us around signing day.

Being an Army All-American, I wonder if Rock Baker or Barrent might have met him and be willing to give him a call........

He had a very good Army AA game. I believe he was going against Fluker the #1 OT in the country. We have the playing time a shot at the Big Ten title and still close enough to home for his parents to see him play. I don't know are chances but I won't put anything past Coach D. He is able to legitimately sell bigger dreams to the kids then he could this time last year.

nothing. Zook is a very aggressive recruiter that probably does some shaddy things here and there. the consequences of that are soft verbals and multiple visits to other schools. its ultimately up to the kid in what he wants from a school. i dont think Dantonio changes what he says to kids. gives them an honest answer as much as he can. maybe in the short run we wont steal a Drummond, but i would bet we will in the long run

somebody sent me something saying that he wont go to Illinios because of grades and has a visit to Ole Miss and potentially one at MSU on the 31st or something. Also that USC is back in the mix.

This is just what I was told, so kinda take it as it is, no real reliable source so ya...

but if we got this kid, it would really really make this class from good to great.

Here's a link and the article of an interview and an opinion of an Ill. insider:

http://www.illinihq.com/chats/...day/#submitform

OK, here is the latest word on Craig, per the Asmussen's HQ chat today.

"Let me tell you what I think happened based on talking to some of those folks close to Craig.
First, he graduated early from Chicago Morgan Park with the hope of enrolling early at Illinois. When that didn't happen, he decided to look for other spring options, which include Mississippi, Syracuse and Michigan State.
Houston Nutt came to Chicago on Monday and had a great visit with Craig. Craig will be in Oxford later this week. If I had to guess, I think it is very possible he signs with the Rebels and enrolls right away.
However, if he can't get into Mississippi or Michigan State at the semester, then I think Illinois gets back in the picture.
The problem for Drummond is that because he is out of school now, he wants to begin college. The last thing the Drummond family wants is for Craig to have to stay at home for the next few months while waiting to go to college. But if that becomes necessary, they will do it.
When I talked to Craig, I asked him specifically, "Does Illinois remain a possibility?" He said yes. I know there are different reports out there about Craig, but all I can go by is what he said to me. I'm not going to take the word of another source when I talked to Craig myself.
One thing that I didn't put in the story was the answer Craig gave when I asked him "What do you think about the recruiting business?" and he said "It's pretty stressful."
We have to remember that these are 18-year-olds making life choices with a whole lot of outside pressure. I feel sorry for him in this case because I think he is dealing with the situation in the best way possible. He didn't rip the Illinois coaches. In fact, he had nice things to say about them.
And he made it clear that the departure of Tom Sims didn't force his decommit. But, from what I understand, had Coach Sims stayed, it would have been another selling point for Illinois. The two had apparently developed a good relationship."

If he can enroll to MSU still I like our chances. Sounds like he wants to go to school now and begin to prepare for next season. His grades aren't an issue with enrolling, he has a 23 ACT, GPA is around 2.5-2.7. I believe this is good enough for an athlete to get in. He didn't get accepted to Ill. due to the school he tried to get into, but he could probably enroll to another school within the college and then switch into the major he wants to pursue after a year. We should know more in a few days to see if MSU will get a visit.

Drummond would be a great get no doubt but if grades are such an issue at a school like Illinois this can't bode well for getting accepted into Michigan State either so he is close to qualifying or what's the case?

I thought there was a "gentlemen's" agreement not to recruit players that have already verballed to another school. What's the protocol on this for other coaches?
Is this fair play or would UI consider this stealing their recruits...?

IMO - if this kid wants to keep his options open, he should pull his verbal.

As posted before, it looks like he did not get into the particular study he was trying to get into. If the 2.5-2.7 and 23 ACT is accurate he is definately qualified. Might just have to pick a different area to start out his education.

Would be a HUGE get for MD if he could pull it off though. He has great film and moves very well for a big guy.

I can see where this gets a little dicey... it's kind of like getting engaged but telling your fiancé that you're still open to dating other people.

If that's the case - don't get engaged.

For perspective, I imagine everyone would be getting all riled up if RR was planning to visit Dion Sims this weekend and try to get him to change his mind.

I can't see how it's really the "other" schools fault.

The kid wants to start college right away, but the school he chose, won't let him.

His only option is to look around.

You realize he had already committed to Illinois, but appears unable to be accepted to UI for Jan enrollment. You consider this "shaddy[sic]"?

I'd guess he's more likely to head off to an SEC school like Ole Miss if he really wants to start college immediately, otherwise he'll probably wait and see if he can get into Illinois or another B10 school in the fall.

your RR hypothetical is FAR different.......Dion has not come out and said "he is looking around" like Drummond did........Dion, conversely said, "I'm committed and my recruitment is over".........HUGE difference.
