Wow. Hello, person who apparently just jumped headfirst into this thread without even glancing at the 18 pages before him.

A player can make a verbal commitment at any time but can not sign until next Feb 3rd. Alot of posters seem to think we are in his top five and some, who may be more in touch with more info, seem to think it is only a matter of time until he is a . A lot can happen so we just have to wait and see what develops and keep our fingers crossed that it isn't a Perry or Ingram.

It just got more important than ever to get him. We need to lock up the state, and this is the first step. If we can stop big time athletes from leaving for programs such as LSU, Oklahoma and USC like they have in the past, it will show the country that this is THE program in the state. We need to lock him down.

They're going to let him play basketball too.

this is a good comparison. I bet there are some people that get upset at MSU BBall recruiting success.
Build a program's success, welcome the better recruits, repeat.

in recent times USC has gotten their kid from Michigan. RoJo and Perry. Although we are in the best position for Gholston, things could change quickly.
EDIT: according to buckeyeplanet, his mom played bball at USC and he knows Nick Perry

If any of you have access to the Sporting News daily internet paper (for subscribers to the mag), check it out today. They have their top 100 for 2010, and Gholston is somewhere in the 50s.
The paragraph about him is a laugh. It says people don't want to let him get out of the state of Michigan, and then goes on to say that the Wolverines will likely get him.
MSU is not mentioned in the paragraphs under any of the 100. I guess we don't exist yet, as far as the Sporting News is concerned. They didn't rank us highly on Feb 2009 signing day either, so take it all for what it's worth.

Free video interview of Gholston on Scout. Didn't see it posted here. It's about a month old, but he talks about where he's going to visit this summer. One of the more surprising things he said is that Iowa is looking at him at OLB, which has him pretty excited.

I'd much rather see Gholston go to Florida or USC than OSU, and I'd rather rip off my own finger nails than see him in maize and blue.

If Gholston goes to U-M, it will be as an opposing player.

Well from what Perry has achieved there so far, I don't think we need to worry about that portion of it.

Perry had an issue with qualifying for his freshman year. He transferred in Detroit to MLK after his first school shut down. Paperwork was mixed up, and frankly, it shouldn't have been an issue. I believe they finally figured it out maybe part way through the season. The NCAA was slow to act and I am pretty sure USC was not happy about it.
So yeah, he didn't do much his freshman year.

I've seen this movie too many times...The kids gone....The OSU and the USC offers would have been hard enough to deter all by their lonesome but throw into it the fact the Vernon Gholston connections to OSU and the mom connections to USC and its a wrap...I hate to say it but its true...

It's been said in this thread that although Vernon is his cousin, he is not really close to him. I don't think that Vernon's OSU ties will lead William to OSU.

Like it has been mentioned above, Will's to OSU aren't as strong as many believe. Remember, Pryor was cousins with Ty Law and Toney Clemons, and he ended up at OSU.

Will appears to be a very smart, very bright individual from what I have heard and seen. He might come to MSU and he might go somewhere else, but I have confidence that it will be HIS decision, not because of his mom or Vernon. He really appears to be a strong guy and perfectly capable of making his own decisions. I respect that after seeing the way some of these kids get towed around during recruiting.
Here's hoping to Will coming to MSU.
