I like the starters. After that it is talented, young, and unknown.
That description might sound good for a few things but not football, not at a position where mistakes cost you points. Still, I think the starters can be as good a pair as MSU has seen in some time and then MSU needs at least one of the other three to step up and play at the level that Rucker and Adams did as freshman. Looking at that list again, it is crazy short and any CB who signs with MSU this year is already showing up in the depth chart.
Safeties
Trenton Robinson
Marcus Hyde
Jesse Johnson
Jairus Jones
Denicos Allen
Donald Spencer
Isaiah Lewis
Kurtis Drummond
Those are the candidates. The top two have playing and starting experience but I've seen enough of one of them not to be overly excited. Another is a walk on. And then there are the young guys. Hoping some of the redshirt guys stand out in bowl practice and in the spring.

If the defense line play is better, then we should be better in the secondary. With Ghoston the d-line has got to be much better!

He will be good coming in but not as great as some of you think, he is only a freshman.
I think you will see him not be very consistent and make some mistakes, but then every few plays do something amazing that makes you think "this kid will be dominate"

Let's hope those plays that he is dominate are passing downs which should improve our pass defense. Now wasn't that easy!

Wish we would have seen more Chris Norman. He could have easily blown coverage, got burned, missed tackles just as well as Misch...

P.S. I notice that you are a UofM fan. Trying to stir the pot? A little down on your luck? Maybe you should go back to a UM board or something.

stirring the pot
Not trying to stir the pot, just like recruiting and wished he picked UofM (kind of like Norman) and I wanted to know the truth.
You are right, I am a UofM fan, but its definitely not the time to come over to a MSU board and flame. I've also never been the type, I'd rather have a football conversation then a pissing contest.

In the past week.
-Dantonio went to his "Dream Team" ceremony and was with him most of the night, many pictures of them hugging.
-Went to a Basketball game and sat next to Dantonio and I think Greg Jones. Was decked out in State gear.
-Don't remember what medium it was, but told the press (paraphrasing) that he is definitely going to Michigan State.

IMO, unsubstantiated recruiting rumors have no place on tRCMB in any way. Unless credible links can be offered that provide proof from the recruit that something has changed/happened in their recruitment, then this kind of crap has no place on this forum.

Can't agree with you, sorry. I think people feel this way when negative rumors are out there. The same thing happens with positive rumors. I don't have any specifics, but until it's reported on these recruiting sites it really has the same weight as these negative rumors. The negatives are probably more fun for other teams, but they all come from unsubstantiated sources.

Will has shown nothing that would suggest him even thinking about de-committing, some UofM fan came up with some BS story about him de-committing and all the othe UofM fans ran with it making it seem real. I'm not worried.

It wasn't "some UM fan came up with a story". It was rather trustworthy (as much as any "insider" is) poster on an ALABAMA message board that heard a rumor that Gholston was headed to Alabama.
I have no idea if he's going to MSU or not, but I will say that if you follow recruiting long enough you will never rule anything out. These are 18 and 19 year old kids that lets face it, are pretty damn flip. One day they wake up and they love ya, the next they wake up and the love someone else more.
It's the nature of the business. That said, I'm assuming Gholston is going to MSU until a) he schedules a visit to 'Bama, or b) makes it official via a statement about reoppening his commitment.
Michigan went through the same thing with Big Will last year and it turned out fine. Most times it does, but nothing is set in stone with these kids.

I'd rather not have any of them on here. Too many people take garbage and run with it. Then cite sites like this board as proof of their validity. Unfortunately, we don't exist in a vacuum and plenty of people outside of regulars read this board. If we want to appear as a legitimate resource to MSU fans, constantly proliferating rumors kills all of that. There are already enough problems with how people post on here (infighting, recruit bashing, hijacking, posting things that have no value) we should at least try to hold off on posting ridiculous rumors. Will is not decommitting and going to Alabama. At some point the fanbase is going to have to feel secure enough that he isn't going to leave after every halfcocked post on unsubstantiated sites.

There will probably be more rumors to come until he signs, but Will Gholston is going to MSU. He has never said or done anything for us to believe otherwise. Gholston will be a big part of MSU getting back to the program it once was. Can't wait to see him playing for MSU, he's going to be a great player here.

The other thing I thought was wrong was the insinuation like, almost, that Michigan State did something wrong to get him. So he picked the wrong kid, he picked the wrong family and he picked the wrong program. And there’ll be a time. There’ll be a time.”

Good news about Will from the UA practice.
Versatlie Gholston
Quote:
|
1:11 p.m. ET -- The defensive coaches had William Gholston standing up and roaming. He nearly made a play on Michael Dyer on a sweep and at least slowed him up to prevent a huge gain. At times, Gholston looks like a man amongst boys, really effective as both a run-stopper and pass-rusher.
|
Shining Spartan
Quote:
|
12:52 p.m. ET -- William Gholston is getting good penetration and forced an errant throw by Blake Bell. He also beat Chaz Green and it will be very interesting to track his development at Michigan State. He's played a lot of linebacker to date and as a full-time end will have a ton of upside.
|
Gholston standing out early
Quote:
|
10:35 a.m. ET -- The White squad is rotating the defensive linemen. Michigan State commit William Gholston, Notre Dame commit Louis Nix, Todd Chandler and Corey Lemonier are in the group out there now. Gholston is really an eye-catcher, but again that's just the eyeball test combined with what's out there on film.
