They cut the I-Beams at critical points, remove non load bearing walls and drill into support columns to load their explosives. It takes a long time to do it right and even if you weren't doing it right it still takes time and is very noisy.

Which is why my ONLY question about 9/11 has to do with WTC7. If the precision to do that sort of demolition is so precise, what are the odds of a textbook perfect collapse of a building occuring naturally from damage from the collapse of another building. The odds must be incredible.
