if you wanna go WAY back i saw soundgarden open up for skid row (gasp!!) in like 92 at the fox i think. the sound was pretty crummy though so i could barely make out cornell's vocals. not his fault of course.

as for audioslave.... they were just never my thing. i agree that they were a totally new band trying to make their own mark but for some reason all the talent in the band never added up to great songwriting if you ask me. i always loved chris's first solo album and i was thrilled when i heard audioslave broke up and that he was gonna make another solo album. from what i've read he seems much happier making music on his own.
