I know many are emotionally invested in the iphone and don't want to acknowledge that all it is is a beautiful consumer electronics device combined with primitive cell phone technology, but that is what it is.
I hope the iphone does well and that the single reason for its popularity is its gui, because that will spur a gui revolution. The cell phone industry has been so focused on adding data/voice features to the handsets that they have totally ignored the gui. The gui is the easiest thing to change and it has the most room for improvement in terms of where we are now and where we could be...future handsets will be awesome!!
