Mozilla has basically admitted as much by dropping Thunderbird from its core responsibilities.
Webmail cannot replace Thunderbird or Outlook for me. Webmail doesn't get checked every 5 minutes automatically.

My MSU and Gmail accounts get automatically checked by Thunderbird. I prefer the user interface over any webmail solution.
