First of all I don't think she is a bigot.
Secondly, he did pester her for a long time before she went off. She just didn't start digging her hole as you say at the first chance she got.
He asked her, he asked again...what was she supposed to do? Say something like, oh my faith is just ok...it's not the best.
Why believe in a religion if you don't believe in it fully?
