People always say that to me too, but when you grow up about 1/2 a mile from an abandoned farmhouse (that was abandoned, partially burned, partied out by burnouts in the 70s/80s, and God knows what else) that literally looks exactly like the picture you see above, and you can remember being with your friends daring each other to go in the basement when it was dark out, and always chickening out, it really makes the movie go to a whole new level.
I can see why a lot of people would think it is stupid, but for someone who is always more creeped out by what is in their head (in this case, an implied...something off camera) rather than what is on screen (I do video production for a living, so a lot of times when stuff is happening I'm just analyzing it trying to figure out how the effect was done), and having an intimate experience with a place that looks almost identical to what you are seeing on screen...it really makes for a uniquely creepy experience.
