OK, how in the heck can they offer playing time?
Seriously? Playing time?
Robert Hughes, true freshman, 5-star.
Armando Allen, true freshman, 4-star
James Aldridge, redshirt freshman, 5-star
That's three guys who are each rated as highly or higher than Jonas Gray is right now, and each within a year or two ahead of him. Now, I realize ND has no running game to speak of, but does anybody seriously believe it's because of the running back talent?
Uh, no.
Their offensive line play is, well, offensive. And because of it, they've got two QBs running the "Please don't hurt me," version of Weis' playbook. Not being able to pass for a darn means teams can and do stack the box with defenders and dare ND to run it with a line that can't run block either.
So, to me, if I'm Jonas Gray, I'm seriously wondering, "Will I be able to change all that all by myself?"
If this kid can't find his way to the school that's up and coming, and has a run-based offense that has put huge numbers on every team but Ohio State this season, then maybe State doesn't really need him afterall.
Maybe he'd have just as hard of time finding holes big enough to drive a semi through. Good Lord. Some kids just baffle me with their school choices.
First Nebraska ... and now ND? Are you kidding me?
