I couldn't find the exact article I saw, but in this one, an interview with one of the Ex. Producers, they hint that they are going to do a total of 48, even if one season needs to be 24.

Well that's good, and I agree I don't see why ABC wouldn't. I don't think anyone knows exactly what is going to happen until the writer's strike ends. And there is a possibility that the strike could drag on for months still and the SAG could go on strike in June. There is a possibility that the 2008-2009 season of Lost gets delayed or never happens.
