In 2006, A-Rod was ranked 20th overall behind Pujols, R Howard, Reyes, Soriano, Jeter, Ortiz, Holliday, Utley, Berkman, J Dye, Beltran, Vlad, Cabrera, C Lee, Atkins and Carl Crawford. So I would definitely disagree that he is 'the best player in baseball'. It won't happen again. Just like the unanimous top picks in basketball (Kevin Garnett), Football (LT) and baseball 2006 (Pujols) didn't repeat.
