Okay, I am NOT an expert on recruiting nuances and ins and outs. I am a serious MSU basketball fan (and alum) who's interested in potential recruits.

Trying once again, here's my question. Offering multiple players - got it. But isn't there a risk involved? Assuming one scholarship is set aside for Wilson (that seems likely) and Izzo has made an offer to Kirk, Riley, Howell, and anyone else on a first-come, first serve basis, isn't he risking losing his preference? He must have one. It seems like it'd be bad for the program's recruiting reputation to offer players then put them on hold when they accept. Is that common too?
Wise, more experienced posters, is that scenario something like what's going on?

Last question, speaking from my humble ignorance:
And if, according to DaChairman (whose accuracy I don't question), Nix was the guy MSU felt they "had to get," why would those other guys have long standing offers if Nix just received one when he accepted?
The "Had to get" statement didn't come until after the last two tournaments The Family played in.

Riley & Kirk got their offers at the end of last summer when Riley showed enough (shut down two senior 5* big guys in the same game) at Peach Jam to merit a 5* ranking from Rivals and was generally considered a top 15 prospect. At the same time, Kirk was growing into a true PF and the label "Next Al Horford" was thrown around as he experienced his own success on the summer circuit. Fast forward to today and they're both coming off very subpar HS seasons. They had a huge height advantage on every team they played and should've absolutely dominated, yet did nothing of the sort.

Conversely, Nix got no attention whatsoever last summer as he play on an obscure AAU team and didn't have any outstanding performances. Fast forward to today and Nix is coming off a fantastic HS season and has joined the Family, and in the process, he's totally outplaying Riley and Kirk (and James Still, for that matter). Nix got his offer and accepted (which he went on record last year and said he would if it came). Hope this helps.
