Muskegon is a huge step down. The recommendation here are pretty solid. Grand Haven or Spring Lake should be your first choice. Norton Shores is okay (I grew up there) and the apartments downtown are nice. Stay away from North of Muskegon (except North Muskegon) and Muskegon Heights.
