Increased drilling is pure politics and will have very little effect on gas prices. $300M for a new battery is also nothing more than a political gimmick. The financial incentive for new battery technology was already there and has been there for decades. It's like offering a cash reward for discovering the cure for cancer.

The only real solution is to develop alternative energy sources and move beyond oil for energy. McCain's non-solution of more drilling simply maintains the status quo and is pretty much the opposite of leadership. It's gutless.
It's like being grossly overweight because you eat at McDonalds every day, but instead of changing where you eat to some place healthier you decide to just add a salad to your daily double quarter pounder w/ cheese.
