I'll have to have him respond why exactly he hated it...I'm not sure I know the exact reasons.
Honestly, I wouldn't say that I "liked" it either though I wouldn't go to the extent of saying that I "hated" it like my husband did.
Only reason I stuck through the whole thing is because we had paid good money to see it at the theater. If the movie had been on DVD at home, I wouldn't have stayed in the room to watch the whole thing...just didn't hold my interest that much. There were lots of very slow points in the storyline. And I usually enjoy a lot of the animated movies that we watch with our kids. I don't generally care about being impressed by graphics...the story is what holds (or doesn't hold) my interest.
(Actually, I was the only one in the family who actually paid attention to the whole thing...my son fell asleep, and I'm pretty sure my daughter dozed off by the very end too.
