I would read the manual and find out. Cars requiring premium do so because it is a high combustion engine and needs the octane to operate efficiently (I think). What kind of car is it? Maybe someone could give you better information.
BTW - premium gas is only like $3-$4 more per fill-up. It is not that big of a difference, IMHO.
