May I, however, sound a muted note of caution? Hossa's rap coming into last season was that he would score bunches of goals during the regular season, and disappear in the playoffs. He seemed to bury that rap last season by scoring in the playoffs -- until the Stanley Cup finals. I'm not looking to win the President's Cup again; I want another Cup. I'm convinced Hossa will help us win one; I'm not so convinced he'll help us win the other.

The best thing about this signing, IMO, is taking him away from Pittsburgh. HA HA!
They said the same about Datsyuk...Look how that turned out. I think Hossa's problem (as was the same with Datsyuk) is that he was the best player (or nearly...Lidstrom and Alfredsson(sp?) were on those teams) on a team that underachieved in the playoffs. People were looking for a scapegoat and found one. Look at Hossa's teams...Ottawa - A team that defined playoff underachieving...the whole team, not just Hossa, underachieved. Atlanta - The Thrashers has no business being in the playoffs...Not to mention the total lack of defense or goaltending. Last year, Hossa thrived as a role-player...taking a back seat to Sid and Evgeni.

I do agree that pulling as many players away from Pittsburgh as possible is one of best ways to win the cup (as Pittsburgh is (was?) obviously the class of the east).

That being said, I am still cautiously optimistic about next season. Still, it feels like the summer of 2001 again (when Detroit signed Hull, Hasek, and Robitaille). I can't wait for next season. GO WINGS!
