I think he was VC who slaughtered a ton of innocent people earlier that day and they were getting rid of him in the street when the photog just happened to catch it, and it ended up making him famous. The guy shooting him was a Vietnamese ally of ours who ended up becoming a pariah for the rest of his life, since no one knew the story behind the picture. Even tried opening up a restaurant in Virginia but had to close, fearing for his own safety.
