We need to prove year in and year out that we are an upper echelon Big 10 team with Ohio State, Michigan, and Wiscconisn. We had a good finish to last year and have some recruiting momentum, but if we go out and lay an egg during the season this year the recruiting momentum will take a serious blow. Michigan State does not have the national publicity, exposure, or reputation that OSU, U of M, or Notre Dame has and that means that the majority of our recruiting occurs in the midwest with most coming from Michigan and Ohio. To be a consistent power we need to prove we can compete with those teams on a consistent basis so we can compete for the big time recruits in our main recruiting states. We got most of the top 10 recruits instate this year with the end of the year success, the new Coach in Dantonio and the mess at Michigan. That will not occur like we need it to, if we go back to being old Michigan State and folding after a big loss.

I don't think that anyone on the planet would argue that winning (99% of the time) begets recruiting. We all know that. The facilities are a nice draw that tell recruits that we're committed to turning the program around. It's definitely a plus.
