but if the idea is to give ppl an old veteran established white guy to vote for on the dem ticket.....why wouldn't you vote for McCain instead?

I agree with LA, Obama should have picked someone similar to him. Gore matched up well with Clinton. And Gore was a quiet guy that made Clinton look like a leader. Biden is going to make Obama look foolish.
