Small claims court is the way to go, get a judgement against him. Then track his parents down and let them know that he has that hanging over him. Chances are they will make good on the debt.
In the meantime - put everything he owns out on the curb immediately and change the locks. He has no basis whatsoever for a claim as he does not have an enforceable lease. If he did - you would be in possession of his security deposit.
