Watched a couple games of his at Lansing Eastern in a scrimmage. I really was not impressed at all by him. In his first game against Eastern, he looked fairly weak and uninterested in what was going on in the game. Eastern's tallest player was Henton at about 6'5", and Riley rarely posted up, called for the ball, attacked the rim or anything that could be mistaken for desire or effort.
Eastern beat DCD in overtime, a team that will maybe finish in the middle of the Lansing league. He did have a couple of blocks, but those were on players 6' and he did not do anything to keep those guys from consistently driving to the basket and challenging him.
Second game I saw was against Pershing. I was very surprised with Nix and how well he looked. The only previous time I saw Nix was against Saginaw in the finals, and frankly, he looked bad then. He dropped some weight, and looked agile for a man his size on the interior. He called for the ball and posted almost every possession, and Pershing did not hesitate to give him the ball (impressed with how well the high school kids from P understood the giving him touches almost every possession would be a huge plus). He has some nifty moves on the interior with his back to the basket and showed good hands and feet. Reality is, he is not going to beat people down the court and he simply can't really jump. However, he did not look like he was getting burned down the court at all.
Back to Riley in this game. He really only had one move I remember. He had a drop step dunk on a 6'5" kid that was nice. Honestly, I don't think he did a darn thing the rest of the game. Nix definitely looked more polished, aggressive, and overall impressive between the two.
In fact, I thought Kirk was by far DCD's best player. He reminded me of a poor man's Al Horford when he was in high school. He is long, had some good post moves and was their best rebounder.
