I'm pretty sure Izzo busted his ass to get Wilson and when he didn't, "ahh, its ok, he was a luxury we didn't need." Whoever said these kids were luxury recruits is not taking their meds. Izzo aint recruiting these kids for a luxury. OMG
Yep, that was me. And, these kids were "luxury" recruits, as in, they were not definite needs for the class they were being recruited for. Strickland was too talented not to go hard after, and the same for Wilson. They have superstar potential. But, they were not "needs" to fill holes from the roster in the year they were recruited. Strickland is a college PG. We recruited Luscious for 08, and have Lucas from 07. A PG was not a top priority for this class, and hence we went for no more PGs with that spot. Instead, we went for Appling in '10, and we got him. He will take Walton's place, sit behind a Senior Lucas and a Junior Luscious, and be the PG of the future.

Wilson is the same way. To state he was a luxury recruit does not mean that Izzo did not want him, or that he was not talented. It means that he is not a make or break recruit for the class he is recruited for. If Roe would have gone to UNC, that would have killed. He was a high need recruit, because we needed a talented/skilled PF for that class.Hence, as soon as we started to see Roe slipping away, we started to recruit Ed Davis and Howard Thompkins for the PF spot. With Wilson going elsewhere, Izzo had no back up plan because it was not a necessity. You have Lucas, Luscious, Allen, Thornton, Dahlman, Summers, and Raymar as wings/Guards for '09. Wilson would have broken into that group, and taken minutes from Dahlman and Thornton. However, he probably would not have gotten more than 10/15 minutes a game. Now, with Wilson deciding on Ore, you bank it for '10. In 2010, the Wing SG/SF will become a necessity. If that recruit is Zeigler, Sykes, or someone else, we will see.
