Avenue Q is closing in early September. If you like 80's hair band music go see Rock of Ages. Absolutely freakin' hilarious and brilliant!

Before hand you can buy tickets on-line at the show's website. However, I'd suggest the TKTS booths where you can get tickets for up to 50% off the day of the show.
If you want to avoid touristy for hotels try the Upper West Side or Chelsea for hotels. Otherwise Midtown by Times Square or MSG is your best bet.
