Now when Calipari took over at Kentucky and brought recruits with him, it was made pretty clear to some current scholarship holders that they no longer had a place in the program in one way or another. Slightly different situation obviously, but with Izzo, it may be possible that he would sit a player down and explain they wouldn't see much playing time, but ultimately I'd have to imagine he'd leave the decision with the player.

Right, didn't Izzo even say publicly that it's what he did with Dahlman? He told him (basically), "we want you here, but if you're going to stay, I want you to know how the opportunity for playing time looks in the next few years so you can make an informed decision." And Isaiah wanted to stay, and that was the end of it.
My point has been I don't think Izzo would tell Zeigler there's a spot for him unless there's actually a spot for him and there isn't
right now. This isn't either Izzo or the Zeiglers' first rodeo. I'm sure everything is in the open. Zeigler has said he's waiting until Spring and Izzo is going to keep recruiting him because there's a good chance a spot will be there come April. Simple as that.
