Let' start fresh for this 09 year.
First thing is first: we have one HUGE commit at LB.
So baring the silent commitment, the biggest question is: What is our area of greatest needs? I would rank it in this order:
TE: We didn't pick up anyone in 08, and don't have a proven player yet
RB: Ringer will be leaving a huge hole in the backfield, and without seeing a viable person who will take his place, we need a STUD here. (Altough if we get Ingram this point may be moot)
QB: Hoyer will be gone, and either Foles or Cousins is looking to make the start. They will be Juniors assuming they don't redshirt during the 08-09 season.
WR: During the 08-09 season is going to be a crucible for our recieving core. The only reason they are this high on the need is due to the fact that we will have a pleathera of talent, but it's all unproven at this point.
OL: Quite frankly I know nothing about this position, other than they are the key to any team. So great guys here couldn't hurt.
DT: All of our proven talent will be gone at this point, but MD has done a good job of getting some good players in during the 08 era: Hoover, Worthy, and Jude (maybe more at this point)
DB: Would be an area of grave concern, however MD has went on a war path and stocked the cupboards with a great amount of talent. We will still have proven guys like Jenrette, Weaver, and Rucker, and then will have Adams, Trawick, Burrell, and Robinson coming in 08. Should be good here.
Finally LB: This would be higher if not for the commit by Norman already, who looks to be AT LEAST a 4* stud. His film is just so good. We have a few people coming in 08, which should help, but I would like another good LB just to solidify this position.
Well, these are my thoughts. I think the 09 recruiting class is going to be the marquee class for Dantonio, and I am really excited already. Anything thoughts, opinions, disagreements?

I thought Norman was the silent?

im not gonna have allusions of grandeur regarding the '09 class until we start winning some big games this fall. however theres a lot of people out there saying that kids LOVE , and its some external force that is making them pass up MSU......we need to win to get that to change

I've posted this before, but this seems to be proper place for it- Dantonio really has an opportunity here with in-state kids. He has some momentum from last year, and for the first time in forever, the MSU coach is the coach with the longer relationship with most of these guys. He has a headstart on RR. Dantonio should really try and nail down some commitments and get em to go public.

He was, until last night. There's another silent commit, and I'm not sure what his timeline is to announce (sooner the better to create momentum), but it's widely rumored that it's Midland QB Andrew Maxwell, who I've read is the best QB to come out of this state since Drew Stanton (this according to a UM fan on their free football board on Rivals). Helluva start to the class!

Call me jaded. Norman does not excite me whatsoever. After the Nichol debacle, it takes a signature. I'll wait until USC, the U, Saban and Stoops have a crack at him post-verbal, until I consider our chances more than 30%.

Extremely early verbals are usually very solid. Nichol de-committed because the coaches that recruited him were fired.

Just to clarify, for the 2009 season, both Foles and Cousins will be Redshirt Sophomores. They redshirted this past year.

Cousins definitely got it, but it seems like there is more confusion on Foles. I thought I read on here that they were going to apply for a medical redshirt for Foles since he played and that they wouldn't find out for sure until after his fourth year here. It seemed like it was almost a sure thing that he would get it because of his shoulder but I thought I read on here that they still had to go through the process.

Foles played for sure. He came in for a little during one of the preseason games. So they won't be able to determine if he gets a medical redshirt until his senior season.

Well then you are jaded. Really early commits usually mean that they really do like the place. As was said before, the Nichol incident was because of a coaching change, not because he was courted by others

Yeah, I tend to agree with this.
Seems like they spend so much time recruiting on behalf of the school, they feel like they already have a vested interest in the program or something.
