good call. this is a class where a kicker is needed. good kickers are often found under the radar though. it would be a surprise if a kicker didn't end up in the class

Worth remembering that Dan Conroy is a preferred walk-on kicker out of Illinois that is joining the team in the fall. They may grant him a scholarship moving forward.

We almost had two kickers coming in, but Stephen Flaherty decided to take the preferred walk-on spot at Northwestern closer to home instead.

I'm no recruiting expert by any stretch, and I haven't really paid close attention in-state recruiting in two or three years. But, it seems to me like there is more talent in Michigan in the 2009 class than in many years.
Am I just imagining that because MSU has landed some of the best in-state kids early, or is there a lot of talent in the state for 2009?

No, this year and last is pretty unprecedented as talent in-state goes.

Wasn't there a similar level of talent two years ago?

You know what you're exactly right- 07 was a great year, last year was good, and this year looks great again.

And next year looks to be loaded again at the top. Austin White, Max Bullough, Robert Bolden, Devin Gardner, William Gholston, Jeremy Jackson and Dior Mathias are the guys getting hyped pretty early.

Add Nick Hill RB from Chelsea. I think he might leap frop austin white as the best RB in the state.

I know it's way early, but other than White and Bullough, is MSU considered a favorite for any of these guys?

Next year could be really split. MSU could very well land White and Bullough. I don't see U of M having a ton of chance in those and out of state teams will be the competition there.
Gardner and Gholston it is safe to say are OSU leans. No one knows how much but maybe we could snatch Gholston if we win 9 or so games. Would be tough but we will see.
Bolden and Jackson are probably both leans to U of M. Both have been up there a ton compared to MSU although Bolden was here at camp and looked very good.
Our best shot to come out with 3 of these guys is one of two things. First I am assuming we land White and Bullough which aren't certain or even close to that. We would have to impress Gholston a ton or hope that U of M lands Gardner and we get a shot at Bolden.

I would only add that I do think UM has at least some shot at White- he's visited Ann Arbor a decent amount. Not saying UM is in any way a favorite, but I think they have a shot.
