2 big years is better than one. Even more so when that one was in 1960. The bulk of Ohio St basketball history(the final fours of the 40's and so on) is so old, nobody cares(other than Ohio St basketball fans) The arguement of more Big 10 titles is so worthless when one team has a an extra 40 years to do it.
Now proceed with the MSU football recruiting

If he plays both, he can't be on a basketball scholarship. This practice was outlawed back when some schools (read: SEC) would recuit more kids than they had scholarships for, then put them on scholarship for another sport that they wouldn't even play. Now, just to be clear, he can play football after awhile if he's on basketball scholarship, but I think he has to sit out two years. The only reason I know this is because of all the discussion and rule interpretation on the M boards during the Kelvin Grady recruitment. They came up with every bit of legislation you could ask for, and I think I've covered the important stuff here.

If Sims is on a basketball scholarship, then basically he would miss the November games and bowl game.
If he is on a football scholarship, then we won't be available to the basketball team until after the bowl game.
If he's a basketball first kind of guy, I would think Dantonio would have a hard time putting much stock in a guy that will only be around for 7 or 8 games a year.

Not sure where we stand with all of the Ohio guys, but I just created that Hugh Thornton thread that we didn't have because of all the discussion we've had about him. So for the rest of the class in regard to OL, taking Klatt as a center, Reynolds & Spiker as guards, and Thornton as a tacker would be a damn strong class. Hope can leverage his Ohio ties here....

Are you sure about that? I thought the rule was whatever sport you come in on scholarship on, is the sport you have to start with. After that it doesn't matter what else you play. So, if a kid comes in on a Basketball scholarship, the first sport he can play is basketball (meaning he's not eligible for football his freshman year). After the completion of the first basketball season, he can start running track, swimming, playing baseball, playing football... anything he wants. But not until the scholarship sport's first season is complete.

This was my understanding of the rule as well...

The NCAA has a pecking order for scholarships. It goes by revenue. Football is #1. Then basketball. So if a player plays both, it counts against football.
No matter what other sport a player plays, if one of them is football the scholarship counts as a football scholarship.

It is totally up to the coaches and the player. Doesn't matter what scholarship he is on. Of course the football coach should be given first dibs since he would technically be on a football scholarship.

What coach is going to give up one of their scholarship players during their season to another sport?

Are we expected to take 6 OL in this class?

Not a chance given the low scholarship availability. I think they'll take four, which is why I'm hoping for Reynolds/Klatt/Spiker/Thornton.

Could be a DT. We won't know until he gets on campus and the coaches work with him at both positions.

Juco Prospects
Anyone have information on these junior college recruits?
Justin Hickman WLB, College of Dupage, Illinois, 4-Star
Kyle Weber TE, Joliet, Illinois, 4-Star
Eric Sproal OG, Santa Ana, California, 4-Star
Genesis Fonoimoana S, Los Angeles Harbor, California, 1-Star
Didn't see much information on them on this board. Weber and Sproal could fill immediate needs.

I would be surprised if Dantonio takes more than 1 JC player each year. That said, I believe we're in on a JC WR.
