That's possible, but since the last rankings came out we landed some people of our own. If I recall, Barrent and Klatt hadn't committed yet.

Actually it is, they'll earn fewer points than teams who got bigger recruits. The thing the previous poster failed to mention was that we also got Barrent. He's a 5.9, that helps a lot.

So the ESPN 150 came out today....Barrent was our highest at 69 i believe then Baker somewhere in the hundreds...no one else made it...Im not sure where ESPN come up with their rankings. THey have Norman as the #26 OLB, HAHAHHA. THen they have Isaiah Bell for scUM as an All American? ha...hes a 3* on Rivals, then they have WIll Campbell rated super low, i dont understand how there is always such a difference between recruiting analysts...makes no sense

You have to factor in class size though. Otherwise a school could theoretically take the top spot with one 5* recruit. I think Rivals system is pretty good, with obviously some contention to their rankings, but every service is going to have that. The only thing I think that would be missing is if they could factor in team need. I think they do that in the basketball rankings.

Nobody takes ESPN's recruiting rankings seriously because they don't put any time into it. They don't have the personnel to devote a great deal of time to it. Recruiting takes an entire company to do it right (rivals). I don't even know why they try.

Yeah, I got ESPN mag as a present. I don't care about skateboarding or surfing so I skip over most of the magazine.Don't mind the insider account it comes with though.
Team recruiting rankings are nice, but in the end if we slip, who cares. We have a great class that I can't wait to see the field. It only gets better if the Sims chatter proves to be true.

Just one year, they still have to do it on the field, yatta yatta yatta
When you are beating out Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Miami, and Florida on the recrutiing trail...celebrate.
The rival fans will always respond with those slogans above, but they seem to pass over those thoughts each year when they are hyping their own top 10 classes.

When ANALYSTS rank our class, it will be in the top 20ish by pretty much everyone.
However, the 'main' rankings that rivals and scout put out are done by a friggin computer and it largely depends on how many kids you sign. I think we'll be around 25 or just outside...on the 'computer' rankings.

 that post made zero sense.
the recruits themselves are suppose to be scouted and ranked accordingly by analysts then they total up the points in said classes and rank them highest to lowest thus you have a ranking.
We're 7th right now on rivals thats pretty friggin good, we'll finish no lower then top 20 IMO so I'm not sure what your gripe is with rivals.
Scouts midwest rankings are ran by uofm dorks so I couldn't careless what they think. ESPN's garbage.
rivals has the most cred in football, according to them we're top 7 so no reason not to be happy. Over a dozen teams would have to start recruiting like hell between now and signing day to knock us out of the top 25 and I dont see that happening.
recent word is we'll sign 18-19 kids. With guys like koehne, sims, custis and others still out there for us.

You're right, but the rival fans are sort of right as well, though. Obviously recruiting does not necessarily equal wins, but it sure has provided a lot of off-season excitement!

These rankings arent put out by the entire rivals network, theyre done by one analyst. In these, the writer is actually able to evaluate how talented the class is.
These are done by a computer system and depend largely on the number of commits. I realize the recruits are analyzed to contribute to the points system, but again quantity usually rules over quality in these.
Not that hard to grasp.

It's funny when the clueless laugh at those with a clue.

Well, were not saying we are a top program. We're just showing excitment over this class and it seems like everytime a Spartan does so, Michigan fans and the like throw out those unnecessary comments. It is okay to be excited about our class just like they get excited over their own. You head to an open board and you'll find non-stop Wolvies trying to rain on the parade.

except fpr the fact that the #7 ranking recently released by rivals was calculated the same way rivals team rankings always are, with their point system. Being at #7 with big recruits still on the board makes it seem unlikely for us to fall out of the top 20 even if we only go to 18 or so.
