But that was for a different sport. His situation was actually two different recruitments.

i take that statement back from that top 10...i didnt look at it that close because I looked at other ones that had more than 4 rbs/2qbs/2 wrs/etc. now looking at it closely I think 5 is about right...maybe 4 and a slight chance of 6.

RECRUITING: Renaissance linebacker to play football at MSU
Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio was in Detroit Renaissance coach Antonio Watts' office Monday to check out some game film.
He was so impressed by the highlights of junior linebacker Christian Norman, he offered a scholarship.
Norman accepted the next day and will be a part of MSU's class of 2009. "Chris grew up liking MSU," Watts said Saturday. "He likes MSU's defense."
Norman is 6-foot-2 and weighs 217 pounds. He was a mainstay on a Phoenix defense that allowed only 12 points per game.
Watts also said Norman is a fan of MSU defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi and Dantonio.
"He figured it was a good fit for him," Watts said of why he committed so early. "He doesn't want to get caught up in weighing offers and all this crazy stuff."

Leon Hill commits to Illinois.
Daily Herald | Griffey decides to roll with Illinois
The Illini reportedly picked up oral commitments from a pair of junior linemen from Chicago Leo: Six-foot-5, 340-pound offensive guard Leon Hill and 6-4, 275-pound defensive tackle Lendell Buckner.

Yup. Leon Hill to Illinois. I had heard that Hill was one of the only legit commit possibilities but I knew it'd be hard to lure him away from Illinois.

When will sites like Rivals/SpartanMag actually start making these rankings and expanding to more players?

The thing is, until they have some sort of early signing period, I wouldn't set in stone what a kid says. A year is a long time to be wooed.

not bad, but bump Baker up your list, lower Caper (even tho I'm in the minority on that), bump up Maxwell and take Schaaf off the list. I saw some film of Schaaf and yea he throws a hard ball but he has bad mechanics, he chucks it like a baseball.

This pisses me off. His quote from an earlier article on 1/27:
"“My favorites are Illinois and Michigan State and Illinois is recruiting me the hardest”, he said. “I like Coach Ron Zook and the way Coach Reggie Mitchell recruits for Illinois. He really recruits you hard and makes you feel like part of the family. At Michigan State, I like Coach Roushar (OL Coach); he really made me feel at home too.”"
Illinois recruiting him the hardest. Come on MD!!

2009 Recruiting Situation
How is it we just finished 08 and I am ALREADY excited about tracking 09?
Let' start fresh for this 09 year.
First thing is first: we have one HUGE commit at LB.
So baring the silent commitment, the biggest question is: What is our area of greatest needs? I would rank it in this order:
TE: We didn't pick up anyone in 08, and don't have a proven player yet
RB: Ringer will be leaving a huge hole in the backfield, and without seeing a viable person who will take his place, we need a STUD here. Perhaps two. Caper and Baker obviously pop out at the obvious choices, however Hershey Jackson also looks decent.
QB: Hoyer will be gone, and either Foles or Cousins is looking to make the start. However since they are the same year, we need a Freshman to come in and learn the system since we didn't pick up anyone in 08. (I would have liked Gray, but oh well)
WR: During the 08-09 season is going to be a crucible for our recieving core. The only reason they are this high on the need is due to the fact that we will have a pleathera of talent, but it's all unproven at this point.
OL: Quite frankly I know nothing about this position, other than they are the key to any team. So great guys here couldn't hurt.
DT: All of our proven talent will be gone at this point, but MD has done a good job of getting some good players in during the 08 era: Hoover, Worthy, and Jude. Plus the 07 class will come into fruition with players like Johnson, Anderson, Jordan, Pickleman etc.
DB: Would be an area of grave concern, however MD has went on a war path and stocked the cupboards with a great amount of talent. We will still have proven guys like Jenrette, Weaver, and Rucker, and then will have Adams, Trawick, Burrell, and Robinson coming in 08. Should be good here. But another 2 solid commits would make our DBs look scary.
Finally LB: This would be higher if not for the commit by Norman already, who looks to be AT LEAST a 4* stud. His film is just so good. We have a few people coming in 08, which should help, but I would like another good LB just to solidify this position.
Well, these are my thoughts. I think the 09 recruiting class is going to be the marquee class for Dantonio, and I am really excited already. Anything thoughts, opinions, disagreements?

I think that it should be safe to discuss in here. I want to try to limit all the threads created in this forum (especially ones that seem overlapping) to make it easier to navigate, but if this doesn't work out well we'll reevaluate the policy.

word i from big m and rivals and such that Teric Jones is a UM lean, but as far as jackson I am not sure. Jones seems to be UMs #1. they'll probably try to take a bunch though.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to who our next commit will be, if not Maxwell going public?

The longer Maxwell doesn't announce (if he indeed is the silent commit) the more I worry about him.

My God, its February...I would not too worried about Maxwell not making his announcement.
I suspect he'll declare himself a Spartan early enough in the process - that is if he choses to become a Spartan.
BTW - I suspect Dion Sims will be like Nick Perry and RoJo. He'll keep MSU in the running, but he'll end up somehwere else. WOTS he's NOT a MSU fan and he has family connecitons to UM.
