How is this? Did he tell you them? For some reason, this info is a bit creepy.

Looking ahead to the 2010 class WR, OL, DL (especially DE) and DB (both CB and safety) will be the main positions of need. Instate talent looks better than this year and we are in on a lot of good prospects. Hopefully we can keep the moment from this class and have another outstanding class.

For the DL we are currently after Will Gholston, Jewone Snow (may be a LB), and CJ Olaniyan. Currently we lead for the first two, and we NEED Gholston. If we take 3 DE's, while it's early, it could be these 3. Johnathon Hankins and Tremondae Branch are two DT's that the staff is currently evaluating and could receive offers. Branch is friends with Otis Wiley and has been to MSU a few times and Hankins ia a teammate of Gholston, so we may be able to get both of them. This would be great to address our DL early in this class and be able to focus on other positions. Also, we may currently lead for Dontae Johnson, a safety from NJ. I haven't seen him play but he's most likely a stud that could get more offers from some good schools. Safety and DE being our greatest needs most likely will be addressed early in 2010.

I'm looking for the most recent Top 20 in-state players in the state of Michigan for 09 according to Rivals, Scout, and the lame Detroit papers. Can anyone help me out? Greatly appreciated!

Saw Jonathan Hankins at the game. Not sure what other '10s are there in attendance.

Gholston was there too...it must've been an unofficial though. Gholston looked like he was having a great time. I would love to get both Gholston and Hankins...they could cause some real problems for offenses.

This is a post from Bill Kurelic:
Near the end of December I posted an article on DB/WR Latwan Anderson from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edwards. Anderson said Ohio State and Michigan State were his two favorite schools. One of the two has just offered. The Spartans have offered Anderson a scholarship. Cincinnati has also just offered.

Anderson runs a reported sub 4.3 forty. He projects to play safety and would be a great addition to MSU. Hopefully we can get 2 of Dontae Johnson, Latwan Anderson and Mike Dorsey to play safety here. I think Latwan will be a FS and his speed would be needed in our secondary. It's good to see that we are a favorite for him.

Yeah if his 4.29 is even close to legit, it would be a nice pickup. ou can never have enough speed in the d-backfield.

With signing day approaching for the 2009 class, I thought that I would list some players to keep an eye on for the 2010 class. This is where we stand, as of now form what I have read/heard with some of the prospects. This class could be better then the 2009 class.

QB:
Joe Boisture - supposedly down to MSU, Pitt and Cincy, most believe MSU is the favorite, one reason would be that his grandfather coached at MSU, probably will receive an offer soon
Robert Bolden - NW, Vandy and MSU in that order
Devin Gardner - every school will most likely be after him, IMO OSU and UM lead

RB: (there are 10+ RB's in this class that are very taleneted that have interest in MSU, but I'll only list 2)
Austin White - staff is still on him despite rumors, he says everyone is even, if MSU pushes we could get him as his brother is on the team
Erik Howard - Mr. Football Ohio as a junior, grades are an issue but he is working to resolve them

WR: (there are 10+ great prospects in the midwest alone with interest in MSU)
Dyjuan Lewis - has offers from BCS schools, hopefully we offer soon, from Ind.
Jerald Robinson - from Ohio, will get BCS offers
Tyrone Williams - from Ohio, favors OSU, will get BCS offers
Brandon Banks - from Detroit, not a lot of info on him, may be 2nd best 2010 receiver in the state
TE: with limited scholarships we may not take a TE, but there are some good prospects int he midwest
OL: (the midwest again has many of the top OL in the country)
Dionte Savage - IMO MSU leads, visited a few times, from Flint
Skyler Schofner - was a standout at the AA junior combine, from OH
James Hurst - most schools in the country are after him, from Ind., could be ND lean?

DE: (OH, IL, MI, PA and Ind. have many good prospects)
Will Gholston - could commit to MSU soon, potential 5 star player and immediate impact player
Jewone Snow - may play LB, though MSU leads as of now
CJ Olanyian - from Warren, MI, top 10 player in state by Scout
DT:
Johnathon Hankins - could get an offer soon, teammate of Gholston, could come to MSU if Gholston commits?
Tremondae Branch - from Flint, firends with Otis Wiley, could be a DE, IMO MSU leads
LB:
Max Bullough - committed to MSU
Austin Gray - could get an offer when Coach D visits him, poster close to him states that MSU is the early favorite, followed by Purdue and UM
CB: (a position of need, basically the entire defensive backfield needs to get better, OH has a lot of good prospects in 2010 at CB and S)
Mylan Hicks - teammate of Chris Norman and Dana Dixon, could get an offer soon
Seth Cunningham - from OH, has interest in MSU
S: (hopefully MSU can get 2 of the 3 listed because they will be highly regarded and we have a strong need at the safety position)
Dontae Johnson - MSU and Maryland lead, could make a commitment soon but most likely in the summer, has an offer
Latwan Anderson - MSU and OSU lead, was just offered by MSU and Cincy, has a reported forty of 4.29, looks like a great FS prospect
Mike Dorsey - from OH, same school as Chris L. Rucker, another great safety prospect that should get many BCS offers

I'm sure this list will change but at the moment these seem like some of the good prospects that have mutual interest in MSU. There are many more that I could have listed and during camps and junior days there will be more names. Hopefully we get a few commits early on in this class.

In taking an early look at the 2010 recruiting class in the state of Michigan, there are a few positions that appear to lack quality depth. Coach Dantonio and Staff will really have to expand their recruiting efforts in the surrounding states to come up with the same kind of quality class in 2010 that they have coming in for 2009. The in-state positions that lack depth are WR, DB, OLB, and OG. 2010 is going to be a "make or break" year to see if MSU can continue to bring in the kind of quality players they are getting in 2009. The key is how well the Staff can recruit out-of-state in 2010, especially at these positions.

I agree that the 2010 class is very important in terms of getting the right players to fit the teams needs and add depth. Though every player listed above is in either MI, OH or Ind. The midwest is loaded at WR, DB and OL in 2010. The DB year may be down compared to 2009, but OH and Ind. have some great prospects. MI has at least 3 that could get major offers as well. MSU will only need to add 1 more LB to this class and they could soon with Gray. Also, Snow may be a LB and OH has some more good prospects at the LB position. This class could be just as good or better than the 2009 class.

I agree. Looking through some early lists, DT might be an issue throughout the Midwest, not just in Michigan. Very important that Hankins drops some weight and impresses at camp. I think DT's might be hard to come by in 2010 as well. At least at this early juncture.
