DT is a tough position to fill every year and there is a premium on getting the type of athletes you need to fill this position. You need big, athletic kids with quickness who can get a "push" up the middle on the pass rush, pursue down the line of scrimmage and also have the strength to anchor against the run. That's why many of the big kids coming out of HS end up on the OL, because athleticism isn't as important.

The midwest is loaded at WR, DB and OL in 2010. The DB year may be down compared to 2009, but OH and Ind. have some great prospects. MI has at least 3 that could get major offers as well. MSU will only need to add 1 more LB to this class and they could soon with Gray. Also, Snow may be a LB and OH has some more good prospects at the LB position. This class could be just as good or better than the 2009 class.

MSU had a banner year in 2009 for in-state recruiting with commitments from 10 of the top 11 players in-state (according to Rivals). Eight of these ten are 4* players. The 2009 class in-state was one of the best and deepest in several years. Currently, the 2010 class in-state doesn't appear to be as deep with quality players as the 2009 class. Of course, some of these Juniors may have "break-out" Senior seasons, thus improving the depth of the 2010 in-state class. I still think MSU is going to have to score some top out-of-state recruits to continue the recruiting momentum and match the 2009 class.

I think he's using SpartanMag's completely unbiased and reasonable ratings.
Using the recent Rivals 250, there are at least 3 of the top 6 going to schools other than MSU (Campbell, Jackson, C. Gordon).

Agree. The top talent in-state seems to be very very good, but I'm a bit doubtful that it will have the depth of 4 star kids that Michigan had this year.

The rankings are from Rivals Post Season state of Michigan Player Rankings based on each player's performance during their Senior season.
Campbell # 12
C. Gordon # 14
Jackson # 21

I think those are the SpartanMag rankings. Rivals is currently updating their state of Michigan post season rankings.

Big Will is overrated, although I don't think he's 12th, probably more like third or fourth. Baker & Norman are superior, maybe Treadwell also.

Why are you hUMmer's Club members skulking on a MSU forum ? If you don't like SpartanMag, don't post on an MSU forum. Go to the hUMmer's club forums and whine !

Yeah, it's up now. WC #1, Jackson 5, Gordon 6, then the rest are Spartans. Full kudos to Dantonio for an excellent job in-state.

From what I have read and heard the 2010 in-state class should be better. Gardner, Gholston and White could be 5 star prospects (I'm not saying they will be but they have the potential). Bolden and Boisture are most likely elite 11 bound, with Gardner. RB Nick Hill is in the rivals 250 watch list. DE CJ Olaniyan is in the top 6 for Allen Trieu, making him a Scout 4 star. Johnathon Hankins and Tremondae Branch both could garner BCS offers. Jeremy Jackson (UM) and Brandon Banks could be 4 star receivers. Max Bullough ( MSU) and Austin Gray could be 4 star LB's. CB Dior Mathis is most likely a top 100 player and CB Mylan Hicks could be a 4 star player. Colvin Voss is a solid TE. There are some good OL that could get some good offers. I'm not saying all of these players will get offers, but they are getting some major interest right now. I am sure that there are some players that I missed, but there's 16 that I named that could be very good prospects. 2010 should be just as good if not better than this past year for recruiting in-state. MSU should be able to continue to get great in-state talent.

Johnson will stay in the South, farthest north he goes in TN. He won't come North. We will focus on White, since we have a better shot with him, and we have limited offers next class.

We have a great shot at Pace, OSU is most likely not going to offer that one.
A little early but if he isn't OSU doesn't offer I like our chances.

keep in mind OSU is limited on scholies again next year -- something around 17.
That will help us with Ohio recruiting

The problem with 2010 is that many of the top players are not options for MSU. 3 of the qb's are top players, but MSU can only take one of them. Mathis and Jackson aren't going to MSU.
Also, many of the players you've mentioned above do not have offers from anyone yet. I count only 4 of the above with MSU offers. Last year, Jackson, Norman, Spencer, Maxwell, Baker, Caper, Sims, and Campbell had offers already. And that is just off the top of my head.
2010 is good at the top, but not as deep as last year. I think it will be a down year on the OL unless there are some names out there I haven't heard of yet.

UM routinely gets kids with OSU offers out of Ohio and Illinois has even makes the occasional dent. It can be done....

Agreed. Especially with an Elite 11 QB in our '09 class, it's not too likely. Plus, he seems to think that his offer sheet will be filled to the gills with the likes of USC, tOSU, Florida, etc. (Which it may well be...)
I want Bolden, because he gives us a great change of pace guy, but Boisture would be a great pick-up as well.

I was only stating that there was more talent, I wasn't claiming the state was deeper in 2010. There are probably around 20 players that could get some good offers. IMO 2010 will have more talent based on the players named above alone. Mathis and Jackson are going to UM, IMO. Gardner will be going elsewhere and Bolden favors other schools right now. I hope MSU offers Boisture soon, he's most likely going to commit to a school before the summer.
Gholston, Bullough, Gray, Boisture, Bolden, Gardner, White, Hill and Jackson all have BCS offers that include MSU, UM, ND, Miami, Florida, OSU, Stanford, UCLA, Pitt, BC, etc. Name some players that received that kind of interest and offers this early last year in-state, you won't find as many. Maybe Campbell, Sims, Baker, Norman and Jackson had that type of interest, but no one else had those type of offers even throughout their senior year. 2009 was a great class, but 2010 will be more talented IMO, but maybe not quite as deep. If MSU takes care of the top tlanet in-state and can get some good players out of state 2010 could be a better class.
Dionte Savage is the only OL that I know that MSU could offer, but I'm sure that more names will surface. The OL could be just like this years with 4 prospects choosing BCS schools, though I don't know if there will be any 4 star prospects at the OL position.

I feel like we say that every year, and every year OSU manages to get 20+ kids.
