Maybe it is just me, but I'm all about this thread. Why? Because it reflects where our program is at recruiting wise and that excites me. Last year we were clinging to hopes of a second 4 star at this time. This year, we are talking 2010 because things are wrapping up with some big dog commitments.

Who all gets an offer on 9/1? We know four for sure with Bullough, White, Gardner, and Bolden having already been verbally offered. I'd hope that Gholston gets his given that he's supposedly getting his tOSU offer 9/1 and we don't need to be fighting the whole "they were my first offer" thing in addition to everything else working against us. I'd guess that Savage will probably have a conditional offer in short order. How soon would Gray get his? Dior Mathis is supposed to be committing to Miami on 9/1 when he gets his offer, so I'm not sure whether or not will even bother. Who am I missing? I think I've covered every player that already has a thread on the board.

When and where did you hear OSU is going to offer Gholston on 9/1?? Not sure I have heard that anywhere. But I think he may get an offer at TE on 9/1.
As far as who else is out there, here is my top 13 for 2010:
1. QB Devin Gardner
2. LB Max Bullough
3. RB Austin White
4. QB Robert Bolden
5. TE/DE William Gholston
6. WR Jeremy Jackson
7. OL Dionte Savage
8. CB Dior Mathias
9. LB Austin Gray
10. RB Nick Hill
11. CB Brandis Yarrington
12. DT Johnathan Hankins
13. DE Tremondae Branch
I have Gardner over Bullough at this stage due to potential. I think Bullough is better all around right now but I expect Gardner to make big strides this year.
As for who we have a shot with on this list. I think we have a shot at all except Mathias and Hill. Hill is pretty pro U of M and Mathias loves the Canes. The wild card is Jeremy Jackson. A few U of M fans are saying he doesn't fit their system and if he wants to stay close to home MSU may wind up getting him. I don't believe that as of now but maybe things will change in the coming year.
Also Branch will be an uphill battle as well as he really likes Louisville.
I really don't see any new offers going out on September 1 unless the staff feels Gholston performed well enough at TE.

I would be careful with that list. Bullough may project more to a DE, and White may have size issues for RB. I still think you need to wait until a player gets through his junior year to have a good idea on where they project.

Well Bolden, Gardner, White, Mathias, Jackson and Bullough all have early BCS offers.
Savage, Yarrington and Branch have performed very well at camps throughout the summer.
And Hankins and Hill have film out on the recruiting services.
Although it is still very early, kids are doing quite a bit to market themselves early these days.

Listen to 49er, YBob. Like it or not, whether or not you think talking about these kids is worthless there is a certain group of men who would disagree with you. They have last names like Dantonio, Tressel, Rodriguez, Weiss, Paterno, etc.

Those are both valid arguments.
However if you have seen Austin White's film not sure there is much concern about his size as far as RB goes. Its damn impressive.
As for Bullough at DE. That may be true but I think he will watch his weight and stay close to where he is. He is an absolute animal at MLB.
He is 6'3 210 and if he is about 6'3 220-225 at the end of his senior year he will certainly stay at MLB I would think.
The list is pretty premature, I won't deny that and I am sure that will be way off when things come together more clearly. I personally expect Bolden to jump Gardner. But I was moreso just trying to give people an idea of who is out there as of right now.

It's all opinion anyway, and it is meant to be debated.
I've said too many times that while its interesting to see the athletes interested in MSU, I personally wouldn't take much stock in anyone until the summer before their senior year. Its just very difficult in my opinion to project a football player for a certain position any earlier than that. Too many things can change physically with an athlete to get overly excited about some 16 year old soon-to-be junior in high school. I'm not a football talent evaluator for HS, college or even Pee Wee, so what do I know. Leave it to the coaches, all the rest is just fodder for the message boards. What do any of us really know? My guess is 50% didn't even play football in HS.
Yea, I'm a broken record on the topic and just need to let it go....

Good list although I think Gholston is ranked too high as he is extremely raw I hear and I also believe Dior Mathis is ranked too low as he seems to be a ballhawk at Corner.
I don't see Branch staying that high as he is only 6 1 which is small for a DE. Also I hear Patrick Rigan's brother is a great prospect and maybe top 10 at OT as he is 6' 5" 270 lbs already. One name that will rise up is Earnest Thomas from St Marys. Hes a 6'2" Safety and is a force already on defense.

1) Gholston has by far the highest ceiling in this group, including Gardner. He's the same type of athlete that Vernon is, and 6'7" 235lbs as a sophomore. Are you kidding me? Doesn't matter how raw he is when he's that much more strong and athletic than whoever he's facing.
2) On the other end of the spectrum, it doesn't matter how much of a ballhawk you are when you stand 5'7" on a good day.

Gholstons ceiling is not higher than Gardners, sorry.

Totally disagree.
Gholston's ceiling: Julius Peppers (at PF too!)
Gardner's ceiling: Kordell Stewart

I am sorry, but is this the most ridiculous argument on this recruiting board...you two are actually arguing who has the higher ceiling, and then finding a pro who this soon to be HS Junior is comparable to? I mean it is one thing to say they "play" like these guys, or look similar. What you guys are arguing about is completely different....

The other site mentioned Bullock, Gray, Rosenbauer, and Turner for LB in 2010. What do we know about these four if not already mentioned.

Max Bullough already has a thread on here. He's been offered as well as Jamel Turner. Austin Gray hasn't yet. Haven't heard anything about Zac Rosenbauer.

Since rankings is a big topic of discussion, doesn't Rivals put out a 100 to watch list or something? Won't that be coming out soon for '10?

Bullough and Turner have been offered. Bullough we are in good to great shape for and it will probably be an MSU/ND battle with UCLA being the darkhorse. Turner don't really see us having a shot, he may commit before the 2009 signing day to the Buckeyes. However we are in his top 3.
Gray camped here for an entire weekend and performed very well. There is word that he is a major Spartan lean if he gets an offer.
Rosenbauer also camped here. He is the one that will probably move to DE. He is already like 235 or 240, he is pretty big. He moves pretty well and will be one to watch.

A new name to throw out and is very high on MSU is Ohio LB Jewone Snow.
Some are saying he is a Spartan lean.
