I believe Dantonio is doing exactly what he needs to do. At a time when D-Rod has upset some long established relationships Dantonio has built a foundation. It needed to happen - how quick we forget Saban and "I can't recruit here against Michigan."

If we nail down the talent in Michigan and are number two in Ohio, you will never hear me complain. I guarantee the rest will take care of itself.

It's going to be at the beginning of August I believe.

In four recruiting classes, JLS had 3 five stars and 17 four stars available in state.
In his first three recruiting classes, Dantonio has had 2 five stars and 30 four stars available.

Is this a result of improved talent or improved scouting in the state?
I think JLS would say it is improved talent in the state, and he would be right. But if you don't have the relationships with the in-state programs, you won't get what you need.

Hondo has some good interviews up with Glenville High School prospects Latwan Anderson (msu offer), Jayrone Elliot (msu offer), Christian Bryant (msu offer), and Seth Cunningham up. He said they will all be at camp this weekend. Hopefully we can land a couple of them. Video here. Hondo really goes out of his way for msu fans.

Scout.com says Bolden is going to be committing soon, it's basically a foregone conclusion that he will not be committing here, correct? Probably PSU or Oregon?

I believe Louisville is also in his final three but all signs point to PSU or Oregon. I read on another board that Michigan State is only going to take one QB with this class.

Thanks for the post, good stuff

I know Hondo catches a lot of flack from some people, but the guy is a true .
You can't hate on the guy at all, and recruits seem to really like him. I hope he keeps it up.

Glenville kids almost always wait until the bitter end before pulling the trigger, so I wouldn't expect any action.

I just got done watching all of the videos on Hondo's House and based on those interviews it seems like we are in great shape with Jayrone Elliot and Hondo also seemed to be hinting that Latwan Anderson was considering verballing to MSU. My question is where do we stand with Latwan Anderson? His thread is locked because we are supposedly not in his top 5 but he is visiting on saturday with the Glenville kids and Hondo did a 14 minute interview with him on how much he loves our coaching staff and the academic focus at MSU.

I was wondering the same thing. Who knows if he will do the typical Glennville late verbal or not since this is his only year attending the school. He seemed to have a lot of good things to say about the program/staff as well. I know we were in his top 2 at one point and then supposedly out of the top 5, but by the looks of that video it didn't seem thats still the case. I'm not sure about him possibly verballing though.

Elliot on the other hand seems to be favoring us, atleast it sounded that way. He sounded like he was very familiar and comfortablewith the staff. We would never completely take that school away from OSU, but it would be great to grab some top kids from there every now and then.

Bryant from what I have read seems to be an OSU lock. I know it's doubtful but if they all wanted to play together, I would sure love to have them here.

The most impressive thing about those interviews was what these kids had to say about our coaches. Especially with Narduzzi & Dantonio, these players seemed to have confidence that those two would do whatever it takes to help them with football, academics & life in general.

That won't necessarily translate into verbals, but I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of these guys commit to us.

I agree, but it sure was nice to hear him talk about the possibility of all three playing together at MSU.

Depending on how things play out this class could be very good, at least a top 20 class. Currently MSU is in great position to land a few highly regarded prospects and compete for some others. I think that we have about 20 scholarships available, but I think that number will become 21-22. IMO, 8-9 total offense and 12-13 total defensive recruits in this class. We are in great position to fill the remaining positions with some very good players.

OFFENSE:

OL - 4 players:
Michael Dennis - MSU supposedly leads, could get a commitment soon, OSU offer would end his recruitment, though this probably won't happen due to OSU's other prospects at this position
Travis Jackson - MSU supposedly has large lead, commitment this weekend?
Brandon Vitabile, Sal Conaboy and Connor Kruse (no offer) - if we get Jackson, one of these 3 would be good options for the other G/C spot still available
Skyler Schofner - MSU leads, still a lot of competition though, Eric Franklin, Jack Debouf and Fabian Ebelle (no offer) - if we get Dennis, one of these three for the other position available

This would give us a very strong OL class. If we can get Dennis, Schofner and Jackson (considering we supposedly lead) this would really solidify MSU's OL for a while.

RB - maybe 1 more:
Austin White - UM leads very slightly over MSU, we've made up a lot of ground, he could play WR or RB, I like him in our offense better than UM's, also Andre Givens or Erik Howard could be options

WR - 1 maybe 2:
Shakim Philips, Dyjuan Lewis (will be visiting MSU soon), Tony Jones and Torian Richardson

I think if we get one of Jones or Richardson the staff would still pursue Philips and Lewis because both are great playmakers. This is an important position for us to recruit, IMO, because we need a great playmaker at this position.

DEFENSE

DE - 1 more:
CJ Olaniyan - hopefully MSU leads, will cut his list soon, would be a great addition, will probably take a few officials, probably commits in the early fall
Marcus Rush DE/LB - MSU, UM and UVA lead, good option if we don't land Olaniyan

Hopefully MSU gets Olaniyan. He's a great talent and could create a great DL with Gholston and a few other recruits.

DT - 2:
Ricky Heimuli - not likely IMO
Tra Thomas - best offers are from MSU and Duke, could be a good addition, might be tough to get him out of North Carolina
Carl Davis - Iowa reportedly leads, but I think MSU has made some good progress and has a great shot at him
Bruce Gaston - MSU, Ill. and ND probably lead
Terry Talbot - many offers, won't decide until after his season

Hopefully we can land 2 of the above, but I'm not too sure about MSU's chances with most of these guys.

LB - 1 maybe 2 (depends on if we take 3 corners or a P):
Jayronne Eliot - MSU and WVU probably lead, I like our chances
Jewone Snow - MSU leads
Ishmael Thomas, Matt Zakrzewski and Marcus Rush DE/LB are other options

MSU is in great shape at this position with their prospects.

CB - 1 maybe 2
Dior Mathis - Oregon leads followed by MSU, UM and Miami in that order, won't decide until Jan.
Latwan Anderson - WVU leads, top six of WVU, UM, MSU, OSU, UNC and Miami, we are recruiting him as a corner, but he could also play safety
Christian Bryant - probably OSU bound, but we have a shot
TJ Johnson - MSU, Rutgers, Purdue and Cinci have offered, has great speed
Ibraheim Campbell - MSU, Vandy, NW and Minn. have offered
Terrence Talbot - has many options, not sure if we have offered

If we get Dior Mathis, have to think that Gholston and the other Detroit recruits helped with him. If we can get one or two of the above this would be a great DB class.

S - 2:
Isiah Lewis - MSU, Iowa and Kentucky lead, he could commit to MSU soon
Kurtis Drummond - MSU and UM lead, would be a great addition to this class, will decide in the fall or after his season
EJ Johnson - MSU, Purdue and Iowa St. are his best offers

P - maybe 1
Mike Sadler - UM leads, but they may not offer

Currently MSU's best chances are with the top two listed. There will probably be some new prospects emerge if we miss on the prospects that we have offered, though it looks good with Lewis and Drummond. Overall, if we can land most of the prospects we curently lead for this would be a great class.

Thoughts?
