Sounds like Northwestern tried to put the pressure on him to commit to them soon, saying they had offers out to 4 or 5 QBs. However, since it's Northwestern, they were probably just being honest with Maxwell, and they probably have all of those offers out because they're not confident they'll get any of them. I don't see Northwestern playing hardball in recruiting, especially since they had to know that Maxwell was a strong MSU lean and probably knew that he was our top QB priority. They likely knew they weren't getting him and just told him the truth about what they're doing.

Sorry, one year off, John Weinke was an Elite 11 QB and he was a 3 star.

If it were me, and NU told me they had 4 or 5 offers out, I wouldn't feel pressure. I'd get the distinct impression that it didn't matter to NU who they got to play the position, and I'd focus on schools that appeared to be interested in me. If MSU has offers out to two guys, Maxwell & the kid from VA (?), it looks like they're being very selective about QB's, and I'd be proud that I was one of the 2 a BT school had at the top of their list.

Its my hometown too and I can't recall many kids the Chemics sent to the Big 10 at all. Back in the late 70's we sent Betts and Braman to U-M and then in the 90's Money went to IU, but that's about it.

Being a Chemic myself, I didn't realize that's where Money ended up. I remember being in junior high and watching him tear teams up, but never knew he played at Indiana. Good to know.

Yes, he was quite a player there until he got hurt. I played on the team with his older brother.

I just realized Phil Brabbs was a pk for scum for a while around 2001, he graduated from my highschool (H. H. Dow) the year before I got there.

Didn't Dow also send either a punter or kicker to one of the service academies in the '90's? I want to say Air Force.

No that was Midland High PK Chris Blasy and it was the Air Force Academy in the mid 80s.

John Vargas played linebacker for Air Force in the mid 90's out of DOW. Scott Albrecht played for BYU around same time from Midland. Midland's kicker Stanton kicked for Wyoming I believe.

Brad Money did indeed play football at IU, but it was the late 80's.
Steve Money, his younger brother, played baseball at MSU in the early 90's (I just looked it up on the MSU site to double check the timeframe he was there, and it turns out he was Academic All-American for MSU Baseball in 1994).
Rich Juday ( MSU QB Steve Juday's son) from Dow High played baseball at MSU in the early 90's as well, and I think there was another Juday son that played baseball at MSU as well, although Rich is the one that showed up in the record books online.
Other than that, I think the other posters pretty much hit all the other D1 players I can remember, from MHS at least. The fact that the Chemic football team has had so much success is really a testament to the coaching and the program, with so few "elite" talent players. I'm really happy that the highest rated QB recruit to come out of Midland will be a Spartan!

Yes....he is going to a regional elite 11. He did well last year in TX, so he is going back.

Yeah you are right, someone else just told me that as well. My mistake. I will change it to avoid confusion.
Still it is nice to see him doing well, and being able to go there and show his stuff. I am hoping that he comes away better than those Texas guys. Maxwell in the Elite 11 camp would be a nice notch on our belts.

I could be wrong, but I think that is one of the regional (still prestigious, but as in D1 offers prestigious, not 4 star lock) qualifier camps, and the 'real' Elite 11 is later.
Edit - this has already been posted like 9 times, wow.

Andrew Maxwell impresses in Texas
apparantly the Elite 11 coach said that Maxwell was the most impressive QB in the Texas Elite 11 'combine' or whatever it is. Dont know what that means on the national scale but its pretty big news for Maxwell.

I'll take it with a grain of salt because I have no idea how good the other players there were supposed to be, but it's encouraging to hear good things about our future QB!

I am just not sure what the event was about in Texas, tryouts for the Elite 11 maybe? He may be one step closer to it.
