Why do you think that is even possible. Don't forget that Gantt was a stud prospect when he came in. MD has already coached Celek's older brother into the NFL so it is quite possible that we have a genuine sleeper turned star in the making there. Duran appears to be a solid program guy as well. I wouldn't automatically assume that even if we brought in a stud recruit like Fragel or Sims that they would leap to the top of the depth chart.

Scout - Fragel talks Bearcats $

Cincy likes (and offers) him as an OT.

QFT

We literally have no idea what to expect from our TEs this year. It could be great, it could be terrible, likely in between. We'll know better after the first 6 games of the season.

exactly. Our problem at Tight End is not depth. The problem is that we have no clear cut heir apparent to take over for KFD.

It may be that we run more single back, two TE sets and send both up the seam. . .who knows? There's always rooms for good athletes, that's what matters! Fragel would fit in nicely, either as an OT or monster TE

I'm not saying that we shouldn't take them or we don't need them. What I'm saying is that the people screaming that the cupboard is empty or that these 2009 TE recruits are just going to waltz onto the team with a starting spot in hand are fooling themselves. We have some quality players at that position already and we shouldn't forget that fact.

Scout - Buckeyes Show Interest in Fragel $

Made unofficial to OSU on Saturday. Looking at him as a TE. No quotes.

Rivals - Fragel Enjoys Visit $

Impressed by OSU. Prefers playing TE. Thinks that a pro offense would be best for that.

After watching his interview, the kid sounds like he wants to play TE and that's what MSU is pitching him on TE/DE. He's got nice size and would certainly be a nice book end with Tyler Hoover but having him on offense would be huge as well. He mentioned that SCum is pitching him as an OT, that may work to our favor since he seems more interested in TE. Hopefully he'll want to stay close to home and rule out Maryland, tOSU and Cincy. I would love to see this kid in Green and White next season.

Dad played for MSU. Brother played for Staten at Miami Ohio. I like our chances.

I like that he has played some on the OL. Great blocking skills/training for a strong TE.

If he wants to play in the pro's with the way he is growing he should be a LT.

Or he could play at TE where both MSU and OSU like him.

if he plays on the Offensive line that would be huge because thats a big boy. But damn talk about a missmatch TE. he seems a bit slow (ofcourse he's also fking huge) but if he could do some speed drills and get a bit quicker he'd be a huge target for Foles next year.

Well as the original poster said he was talking about pro potential and not MSU and OSU. There is a difference there because Dantonio and Tressell are smart enough to recruit a kid at the position where he wants to be recruited at. Fragel has said he prefers the tight end position over Oline, so Dantonio is making the right move at recruiting him there as that might give him the edge over U of M. I think that Fragel can be a fine college tight end, but he doesn't fit in any spread system where they look for their tight ends to be bulked up wide recievers and small speedy tight ends. At 6'8 255 and growing as a 17 year old who still is about 14 months away from seeing a college weight room, you have to be concerned about him outgrowing the position. Fragel has said that he is hitting the weight room to gain strength and "I plan on graduating around 270."(latest rivals article) With him graduating at that weight it would be easy to see him as a tackle in college and personally I think his greatest potential is there, not that he couldn't try to slim down a bit and play tight end. Either way I hope MSU gets him.

If he tops out around 6'10" and 320, he'll be both a huge target AND one hell of a bonus OL when lined up at TE on running plays

Okay, picture this for a moment.

Single Back-Big Set

Fragel on one side of the line, Sims on the other side. Baker or Caper in the backfield (whos ever turn it is). Maxwell behind center. Spencer on one side, Cameron Gordon on the other at WR.

Pound em, Pound em, Play Action to big azz playmakers at WR and TE.

Chills anyone?

except

1. we run a fullback so if 2 TE's are in only 1 receiver would be
2. These kids still must prove something in college. Your looking waaaay to far ahead (FSU probably said the same thing about Xavier Lee)
3. I do like your optimism
