Baker has had a few rough games this year. Any insight? Is his o-line that bad?

After talking with some people in Michigan, the consensus is that Oak Park is one of the worst teams in the state (possibly the worst) ! The team is poorly coached, totally lacks discipline and appears to be disintegrating. Their OL is below average and very porous. Edwin is going to have a very difficult time putting up any impressive stats this season. Any yards he gains will be basically on his own, using his speed and strength. Hopefully he can avoid any injuries this season running behind that OL and will be ready to contribute when he gets to MSU.

This is something I posted here after watching him play on Friday....
I'm not a coach, I'm not a scout, I'm not a recruitnik....I'm just a football fan, so obviously take what I say with a grain of salt....
Oak Park(Edwin's team) played Troy tonight....Troy is a good football team, not great...
Oak Park, on the other hand, well, they are one of the most disorganized, undisciplined teams I've ever seen in the history of high school sports.
I don't think I can stress that enough. It was so frustrating watching this team that I left with a little over 8 minutes left in the 4th. Several writers who were sitting near me and even some MSU fans left as well.
By my count, Oak Park had 15 penalties....about 3 unsportsmanlike, a numerous amount of procedure penalties, a couple of too many men in the huddle, etc...
I would barely call the coaching staff competent. Players would openly disobey them (including Edwin), and halftime was spent with players throwing the ball around the field.
Utterly disgusting.
Its a shame that a talent like Edwin Baker is wasted on such a terrible team.
As far as Edwin's actual play goes, well, he only touched the ball 10 times while I was there...
In the first half, he had 3 carries for 0 yards but broke a pass in the flats for 30-40 yards....
He was visibly frustrated by his team, his coaches and the lack of effort. Several times he walked away from the huddle with his head down shaking his head.
I'll never understand why a player of his caliber, an All-American and easily the most talented guy on the field was not utilized.
Because of the limited amount of touches, it was tough to tell how great he can be. However, his short flashes were enough to convince me that he could play as a freshman and get touches.
He has world class speed. There wasn't any point in the game where the first man who touched him actually tackled him. He routinely beat linebackers and ends to the outside and ran over defensive backs who were there for contain.
If this guy was playing at a better school, IMO, he would be considered one of the better players in the nation (I guess he is already).
After Oak Park's qb threw another pick in the 4th, Edwin lined up the kid who intercepted it and laid him out....
In the process, a kid on his team was badly injured though...so much so that the ambulance was brought out on the field to take him off...
Anyways, long story short, MSU is getting an incredible player....In State's offense, if he stays healthy, he CAN be a better back than Ringer....
Not saying he will but he has the talent, the speed, and the toughness....
Go State!

Baker goes for 475 yards and 3 TD's tonight! Puts him 3rd all time in the state for single game yardage.

incredible. But how do you rush for almost 500 but get in the endzone only 3 times.
What a pity. I say we let him go

That is an astounding number. Hard to believe it's not a record.

Classy move by Baker. It is always good to not want to embarrass the team you are playing against.

As a recent Royal Oak (Dondero) alum, I don't know if I should be embarrassed or psyched he's going to State

He could not have played; Oak Park got blasted by Troy Athens, one of the worst teams in the world, 36-8.

My old roomie and I went to the game, and son of a gun, Edwin was out injured; didn't get the details, but when asking one of the parents behind us, he indicated he had been injured sometime in the last week; he was walking around on the sidelines out of uniform with a minor limp. We were certainly disappointed after driving over 35 mi. to see him play.

I don't think they had a game this week. I'm not totally sure of this though, I didn't see a score in the paper for them today

Oak Park played Clarkston at home Friday night.
Oak Park lost., 35-0, not shocking, Clarkston has a much, much better program. Baker didn't play.

I made the 0.25 mile trek to Stoney Creek tonight. Baker wasn't there. The football on the field was so brutal I had to leave at halftime.

A friend of mine from Oak Park said that Edwin is done for the year to make sure he doesn't re injure his knee on a team that is going no where. He would easily be a target for teams, and with no talent around him it could get dangerous for him. I did hear that he will be in the Army All-America Bowl.
