I think he must have been confused by the whole recruiting process.

Not to worry, Hondo is all over this story. I can't believe Cal would pull an offer like that.

Talk about a bad Joke (FB Recruiting)

RGJ.com: Football: Questions surround Hart's Cal commitment

It sounds like some guys called this kid pretending to be coaches at big time schools. He calls a news conference announcing he's going to Cal in front of the whole town. Come to find out Cal has no idea who he is. Pretty crazy.

I did a search, didn't see anything posted.

Based on what the coach is saying now, it's under "criminal investigation." Either the coach is or he was totally scammed himself. If that's the case, I kinda feel bad for the kid.

Quote:
Coach Hodges stated that he became aware of a problem around 9 p.m. Friday night and that he's been in meetings all day long. He also suggested, in few words, that he's been innocently dragged into this situation too, and that Hart's announcement – his recruitment – and the situation that occurred is now under a "criminal investigation."

"This matter is under investigation," Hodges said. "Right now, it is a law enforcement situation being investigated by law enforcement. So it is a law enforcement investigation being conducted by law enforcement people. We've also contacted other agencies, including the NCAA, and our governing body, the NIAA here in Nevada, and we've kept everyone full apprised."

"I cannot comment on an on-going criminal investigation."

Teri White, Fernley high Associate Superintendent stated approximately the same statement.

Fake Commitment

I don't know how many of you have seen this, but some kid thought he was getting recruited by Cal and even went as far as to announce his commitment last week. The only problem was that he was never even on Cal's radar and it looks like someone was impersonating Jeff Tedford. Funny or evil?

Based on the fact that this kid would have been the first D-1 recruit from this school, I'm guessing that the coaching staff was in over their head and also duped by the "practical joke."

Reading the quotes from the kid's grandparents who were oblivious to the whole thing was really sad.

If he was getting some D1 letters he should have some D2 or at least D3 offers right?

I know D3 doesn't give scholarships but they find ways to help out financially

Off-topic Recruiting hoax in Nevada

One of the more bizarre stories I have ever seen. Sounds like the kid did this himself to me.

ESPN - Investigation looks into prep opting for school that didn't recruit - Insider

I could see Bongajon doing something like this.

I wonder if Dion Guy is going to have a press conference tomorrow. Hondo is probably already on his way to washington dc to cover it.

Frank Caliendo is laughing his ass off right now. He duped the player and the coach into believing he was really Tedford. Well done, Frank!

I hope he called some of the Patriot players as GW congratulating them on their 2nd place finish.
