It's a good day when USC and UM are fighting over the ones we slow play...

His 'status' where? On facebook?
Rivals doesnt even show USC with an offer. No way they would offer without a camp or evaluation. MD isnt, doubt they would.

Just curious overall, not due to Benton here.
edit * I see you need to be in their network or their friend.

I am probably stating the obvious here but....It seems that MD likes to offer kids who WANT to be Spartans. Maybe not in all cases but it SEEMS that way with S. Benton. I guess it is obvious as well, that if you get a kid that really wants to be here, their focus, drive and desire to succeed will help overcome any (or partly) a lack of talent. I loved watching D.Thomas but I absolutely cringed upon reading his comments regarding uM. I know that this is my MSU bias but I really don't want to hear about a member of any MSU sports team say or imply they would rather be somewhere else if they had the chance. This is why Drew Stanton is one of my all time favorite Spartans.

Forget all that. UM is a highly successful, storied program. We're idiots if we're offended that guys we've recruited and are recruiting want to play there. There are some who have chosen MSU. There are plenty like our '08 tackle recruit Ruhland who had some disappointment he wasn't offered by UM. Whatever, when they come on board with us they are us, and I know this is where their loyalty is now. All that can shift over time as does his thing. Don't forget all the garbage our program has been through in recent years (alright, 40, whatever ). Do you expect kids in high school to ignore all that because they can see some pure, deeper beauty of being a ? No, forget it. But, when the kids come on board, they are green and everything is a new day. Kudos for all that UM has done. Now, , beat some Wolvie butt!
An earlier post claims Benton wasn't offered at the last junior day. Most of the rest of us are just scratching our heads until we hear more.

I highly doubt he is offered before camp season. He clearly has the athleticism, but you have to understand that he played LB for Brother Rice. Obviously we know he can stop the run, but what remains to be seen is if he can cover recievers. If he does well at DB in camp, expect an offer shortly after.

New article about Benton on Rivals. He was indeed at practice with Chris Norman. Good to see current Spartan commits hanging with future ones! And who wouldn't want to play with Norman?
Benton seems to completely understand the fact that Dantonio wants to see him in person at camp at the safety position and then offer him. Sounds like it is only a matter of time. As soon as Dantonio is convinced in person, the offer will be there. And once the offer is there, I think it'll only be a matter of time before we have another stud putting on the Spartan helmet.
p.s.-to answer previous posts, no he doesn't have offers yet

Well May evaluation period is less than a month away. Not sure if we have one day camps during May, however I do know that the big one from last year was in June.

9. Shamari Benton, SS, Birmingham Brother Rice, 6-0/183/4.50: Benton traveled to Akron with a very clear objective: show the ability to play safety. He has been a standout linebacker at Rice, but he projects as a defensive back on the next level. He acquitted himself in the secondary very well during the tourney, displaying a nice burst and good ball skills. Halfway through the event, Benton had already collected at least four interceptions. He has been to junior days at Michigan and Michigan State in recent weeks, but neither has offered. Both schools want to see him at their summer camps. At this point he favors MSU.

Scout - Benton Has First Two Offers $
EMU and CMU are first to offer....thinks CMU can compete with any team in the Big Ten.
No offense, but

Oh, I'm giving him every break. I want him to play for us. I thought it was a funny comment and I bet you laughed too.
