Michigan: Meet Stephen Schilling and Carson Butler. They’re the reason why the cupboard isn’t bare for Rich Rodriguez. Carson Butler is the next Bennie Joppru. And Stephen Schilling is…a right tackle, I can’t do this. The Wolverines are in danger of a 5-7 season. And if you’re a hater? It’s beautiful.

I just read the 3-21-08 Rivals story on Chapman. To paraphrase Illinois is reqruiting him the hardest. MSU has always been his favorite team and he would love to play in E. Lansing.
Recruiting just seems to be falling in place this year. Chapman seems to be as solid as any OL recruit MSU has landed in the last couple of years.

Oh, he's waaaay tooooo small to play B10 FB.
Sincerely,
All those who were saying that kind of crap in the Clemons thread.
(By the way Mr. Chapman: that is not my belief at all. It's a little barb sent toward a few posters on here that don't get the concept that stats for the recruits for 2009 reflect their size, speed, etc as juniors in HS. I am fully aware that you are going to grow and get stronger as you develop and mature. Now if our coaching staff can somehow manage to get you to change jersey colors to something more pleasing....)

Very solid GPA. At first I thought he looked a bit skinny, then I realized he's 6'8

New article up on Rivals: http://michiganstate.rivals.com//content.asp?CID=823838
One of the top un-committed prospects in Michigan for the class of 2009 is offensive tackle prospect Charles Chapman of Carlton Airport High School. Spartanmag.ocm recently caught up with the 6-foot-7, 285-pound prospect and got the latest on his recruitment. Find out that plus more recruiting news.

I think that MSU offers and he verbals at some point way down the line.
He is the true tackle that I keep talking about, and thats what will eventually lead to his offer

He currently has offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, and Miami of Ohio. Schools of interest are Michigan State, Michigan, and Missouri.

Chapman to IU
This recruiting season is like a perfect storm for Indiana. They can get kids they wouldn't normally have a chance at signing.
Michigan appears to have a very solid number of D1 talent available; MSU has a limited number of scholarships and is being ultra selective as to who they offer; UM isn't recruiting the state very hard. Thus allowing the Indiana staff to pick those players that are not quite what Dantonio is looking for, and who have an opportunity to play for a Big Ten team and not a MAC school.

A poster on the IU Rivals site is crediting Watkins and Gainer with influencing Chapman's decision to become a Hoosier. Don't know how accurate a statement that would be since I am sure Chapman would have jumped at an offer from Dantonio.
Chapman did the correct thing by selecting a BCS conference school over his MAC offers since neither MSU or UM had him has a "must have" recruit. He had been to MSU enough times and performed for the coaches to where if he had wowed them an offer would have been forthcoming. MSU has decided instead to pursue other candidates they believe will be able to perform at their high level of expectations.
IU may in fact surpass NU in talent level but that talent will still be playing in front of a half empty stadium. Even Bill Mallory during his best years couldn't get their small stadium to sellout. IU and its fans simply don't care enough about football.

You know what is really surprising about this? Look at Purdue and Iowa...two of the more successful Big Ten programs over the last 10 years, and they are struggling (Iowa in terms of early commits, Purdue as well, and no big names.)
Could we see a new group of schools on their way to becoming the next level down below he big boys of OSU, UM, PSU and Wisc in the Big Ten?

Not in terms of numbers obviously, but they've already beaten out several big schools for a few damn good Chicago kids and they're in the running for several more.
