Don't know anything about him but I bet it'll be hard to lure him away from OSU. Plus don't Glenville kids almost always commit to OSU? (besides that one Illinois player last year).

If Ohio State offered I guarantee you that he runs a faster forty than 5.1

At 6'3" and 215lbs as a junior I would think he will be moved to Mike once he gets to college. That kid will probably add 20lbs+.

Exactly. He wouldn't even be MAC level at that speed. No way that time is correct.

When jonas gray was a junior his rivals shuttle was over 5 seconds, but was later updated to a 4.2. Charles Burrell ran a 4.9 at one of the combines. Dont put to much stock into this kids 40 time according to rivals, if he was slow we wouldnt recruit him.

Loooooooooooong time since any posts in this one:
Rivals - Newsome is enjoying tour $
Discusses this year's Glenville 'bus' tour (more of a van this year...).
One quote worth quoting, when discussing that OSU isnt the only school he is considering:
Quote:
|
Now Newsome is seeing other schools, and is opening up to what they have to offer. "I am able to see what I exactly want to see in a school. For example Michigan State is almost exactly like Ohio State. They could be twins almost. The facilities at Michigan State were just like Ohio State."
|
THAT I like to hear from a Glenville student. Hard to say if that is just his opinion or a discussion on the 'van'.
Interested in DE and LB. Most consider him DE.

He's long be considered an OSU lock, but.....
| Bucknuts - Bill Kurelic - 06/17/08
Newsome and several of his Glenville teammates (Marcus Hall, Mike Edwards, and Travis Freeman to name a few) are on the Ginn Bus Tour. Today's stop is Illinois.
Ohio State still leads, but Michigan State is moving up Newsome's list.
Expect a late decision, after some official visits.
|
And the thread title should probably be changed to DE, or at least LB/DE, but it looks like he'll end up at DE.

no, they have a great coach down there. Big reason that school cranks out so many d1 prospects. On top of that he takes them all over the midwest on a tour every summer...how cool is that? I do not know of any other coaches doing that.

Glenville, the team with more talent than any other team in Ohio but has never even played in a state title game? His teams are considered very undisciplined.
Ginn has done a great job of keeping talent in a public school where kids used to leave for the private schools (much like Colerain in Cincinnati), but well coached is not one of the things Glenville is known for.

lol thats why I asked. his teams are terrible on fundamentals and discipline. (as much so as my spelling.) Yes he has a ton of D1 athletes, none of which are grown in their program. Its a football pipeline to ohio state and nothing else.

I don't think it's that they lack fundamentals. The problem with Glenville not getting too far(though they have been to the state semi-finals in Division one, which is an accomplishment, especially for an inner-city school) has more to do with coaching decisions than it does with fundamentals. Glenville kids are usually well coached. Their defense is always well coached. However, they've always had personnel problems. They usually have a few good linemen, but not a lot. They don't platoon linemen like a lot of division one schools do. Quite a few go both offense and defense. Additionally, Glenville often produces very "raw" athletes because of a lack of facilities. They simply don't have the means to develop these kids in the weightroom like a lot of schools can.
Considering their circumstances, Gleville has been plenty successful, especially in a division dominated by Catholic schools and suburban schools. Glenville is one of a handful of inner city football programs to be really successful.

That suprises me (the facilities being so poor) doesn't Glenville have some NFL alum willing to pony up some dough? Ted Ginn Jr? Troy Smith?
