Link to Rivals.com Profile
Link to Scout.com Profile
Defensive Tackle
East Lansing (MI) East Lansing
Ht: 6-foot-3
Wt: 261 lbs

Anyone see Blake Treadwell play? Son of our offensive coordinator. He weighs in at about 265. I read somewhere that he plays like an animal, which is what you want to hear about D linemen.

OL Blake Treadwell
East Lansing junior, 6-3/261
Treadwell, a tackle, was the top blocker for an offense averaging 341 yards and 27.4 points per game. Also
a defensive end, he earned a Division 3-4 all-state special mention and is a Division I prospect.

And Stephen Schilling is…a right tackle, I can’t do this. The Wolverines are in danger of a 5-7 season. And if you’re a hater? It’s beautiful.

Are Blake and his dad loyal enough to the Spartans for him to play at MSU as a preferred walk-on? Can they bumb his dads salary the amount of his scholarship to make up for it? If possible this would in essence add an extra scholarship. One last question, is he an actual Big Ten caliber recruit?

Well, Treadwell's got to be making well up there in the six figures. I hope they'll all agree there is no need to use a scholarship. Of course, if he comes on and makes the two-deep, well...they might want to reward that.

There is a negative to just "walking-on" is you are a coach's son. That has to do with the training table, lodging, i.e benefits scholarship athletes get that the walk-on's do not.
This is the reason Ferentz son took a scholarship rather than walking on.
In other words, if Blake is worthy of a MSU scholarship, he will probably get one (assuming he wants to play for his dad).
If he is not, and really loves MSU, than maybe he comes in as a preferred walk-on.

or maybe his dad gets Coach Mannie to help him out a bit with the weight training early, he puts on 30 lbs and become an All-American

I doubt it. His father makes enough to let him live on campus.

What are the restrictions on coaches and their close relatives playing for the team as far as money and stuff like that go? Are there restrictions on what Blake can get from his dad for tuition money or stuff in general?

6'3" and 275 lbs? That is surprising to me as Don Treadwell seems like a smaller guy.
4.9 forty is fast for that size.
Welcome Blake!
