If you're going to post a rumor about a recruit, post it as a rumor and let people know that it's a rumor.

However, if it's something you don't want publicly posted, starting a thread to have people PM you to get the scoop seems counterproductive to this forum. If it's something that shouldn't be made public, sending it via PM to strangers probably isn't the way to go anyways. A thread filled with nothing but "Please PM it to me as well!" posts just seems a little silly.

And it's not like he was banned or anything, we just decided to lock the thread.

I like the policy...I also like the fact it looks like this forum will not operate with reckless abandon to help support its legitamacy of recruiting info....props to Trevor for close supervision

This is a message board right? Not a national publication right? I've had posts deleted because I was too negative so I changed that up. Now threads closed without much explanation. What was the thread hurting? All it was was a chance for me to get back to those interested. I started something that peaked the interest of many and those that got the info based on their reputation and high post total, etc. backed the fact that it was great info. What is having a thread about it hurting? If it was pointless or ridiculous then people wouldn't respond and it would die on its own. Obviously there was a solid foundation behind it and it had people excited. What does that hurt? If AA or any other mods questioned the validity and wanted to protect the info spread here, they could have posted me to find out the truth behind it before making a decision. I was waiting for AA to hit me up and request the info to see what the fuss was about but he didn't even ask about it. Seems like if you're going to monitor here and make sure everything is on the up and up, you'd at least send a pm and inquire-not close a thread when you don't even know what it is about. I think everybody that got the info will back me, this wasn't message board garbage.

With that said, I said my piece. But don't expect me to share info again. I'll take it elsewhere. I thought I was being a nice guy passing on some info to the true trustworthy die hards here. I thought I was making a positive contribution to the site.

I posted my last response before reading Trevor's suggestion to send it to a mod in the other forum. Had I read that, I wouldn't have posted.

In response to FW, if I just wanted the attention and was looking out for myself, I would have posted the whole thing for everyone to see. I'm pretty sure it would have brought in people from rivals, scout, and other mbs, but I obviously didn't take that route. You were all cool until you didn't get a response from me and now you're acting like a bitter baby about it. I was cool to everybody about the situation, it didn't warrant any of your crap posts.

With that said, I'm over the situation...on to recruiting.

Look Tre, the info seemed legit. You mentioned yourself how sensitive the information is, and I am sure the mods are more in tune to that than anyone else around here. I think the mods did absolutely the correct thing here - they closed your thread before it got out of hand and something slipped... it's precariously close to having slipped anyway... The mods were looking out for the board's as well as your reputation by playing things conservatively... how can one argue against that?

Better safe than sorry. I totally understand where Trevor and AA were coming from when they locked the thread. Loose lips sink ships and no one wants this ship to be sunk so they're playing it safe. Besides, it's not like the thread was deleted and the offer to PM Tre for the information was erased. It's still there, basically just like a bulletin.

Hopefully everything comes to fruition and we can all enjoy the news together out in the open.
That would be very cool if this was the dawn of a new era in Spartan football.

DrTre did nothing wrong and his thread shouldn't have been closed. He got sensitive inside information that he wished to share with a few people. He didn't want to steal a recruits thunder and tell everyone what the recruit told him and then possibly have the recruit change his mind. To get that kind of info and not blab it all over the message boards takes a lot of guts, I don't think I could do that so I respect him for that. Thanks for the info Tre

Just for the future, if anyone gets any information like this...do not attempt to disperse it in the same fashion. Contact a mod and ask if it is OK to post it or don't say anything at all. I can appreciate that he wanted to share it, but it was not the right way to go about it. You have no idea who you might be sending things to.

Personally, I probably would have PMed it to people that I knew and not said anything on the board if I didn't feel comfortable posting it.

Now I'm going to actually close this thread since there isn't any more to say.
