Devil's Advocate question about 09' VERBALS....
I'm not in ANY way trying to be a buzz killer here guys, but I have a general question about all these fantastic verbals.....are they ALL going to stick? In other words, if Caper commits.......fingers crossed, and basically reserves his spot until next Jan., this will cover his butt until he can go visit all the other schools out there: including scavangers like shred-riguez...that come sniffing around. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in ANY way saying this is what this young man would do.......but we saw some Pennsylvania and Florida kids back out of their verbals with PSU and U-F at the last minute to play for crybaby shredriguez. Starting to worry/think that early verbals don't have the meaning and impact they did in the old days when you could take people at their word. OR is it just that I'm a lifelong, paranoid suffering spartan fan that's worried over nothing?

I think that comes with being a Spartan fan, but you have to look at the history of very early commits. As long as there isn't a coaching change, these guys are normally very solid, bc they spend then next 11 months recruiting their boys to come and play. They end up at the Army game talking State up and trying to get the guys on the fence to sign and make for a huge class.

I was going to mention the coaching change at scUM dhoffs, but the post was already running long. If we get Caper this week and KEEP all these kids and get their LOI's next Feb..............wow.

It's paranoia. I'm not worried about these players at all. The alternative would be for MSU never take early verbals and that wouldn't make much sense. I would try having a little confidence in the people in charge.

I'm a little uneasy just because it would be the spartans luck to have kids back out on their word. But I'm old fashioned enough to believe that these young men will stick to their word and be in the g/w next year.

Baker's comments when he verballed about and integrity, honesty, etc. made me think he's solid. Coach is building a reputation, and a good one. These guys are committing because they believe in him and trust him. They're not going anywhere.

It seems like from what I've read Dantonio tells the kids to make sure they are absolutely certain they want to pick MSU before they committ so i wouldnt worry about anything.

This hasn't happened under Dantonio though. Sure we have had players on campus and say they loved it etc, etc, and not commit, but everyone has that happen. Until Dantonio has a few guys decommit I see no reason to expect it to happen in the future.
