It is kind of lame: who cares what other programs will say or do? That's reactive, not proactive. It's negative and not positive. Coach D rises above all that nonsense and will deliver with actions, not words regarding recruiting and the process. That being said, Mitch C. is a good Spartan and poster IMO and didn't intend for this thread to go in that direction. His original post was more of an off the cuff type comment more than anything else.

Not all "scUM" fans view every MSU success as a sign of cheating, nor try to dismiss recruiting success for the Spartans. Personally, the future of both UM and MSU football is looking extremely bright and both fan bases are the most excited with regards to their individual programs as I can remember.

UM fans might want to start worrying about Sims -- from todays Detroit News ...

The father of another top-five in-stater, Orchard Lake St. Mary's junior wideout/linebacker Dion Sims, has certainly taken notice.
"Michigan State is very, very strong," Don Sims said. "They're coming at us almost daily. They're at the high school games, they're sending us correspondences and they're inviting us to campus. Dion and I were just talking about the players that are going to Michigan State from Detroit. Being a Detroit kid and being around all of those kids, he is seeing how State is really doing a lot of that -- and that's a factor."

MSU football raises its recruiting game
The wildcard in the battle for Sims could be his wish to play basketball. I'll go out on a limb and say he just might rather play for Izzo than Beilein.
Your last paragraph is kind of how I've been thinking about the whole MD/RR situation. They'll be targeting different types of players at the skill positions, which means both schools can pull in very good classes without necessarily hurting the other. It's going to come down to defensive players and OL in the state of Michigan.
I like the way Dantonio is going about things -- it's too early to tell whether Rodriguez is going to be able to keep up.

The difference is we aren't raiding another state and pulling in kids we shouldn't get under normal circumstances. These are all MI kids, and we have a shot at every single one of them, anyone laying accusations we aren't doing it the right way would be way off base. MD isn't a Zookian type recruiter.
I hope the early success puts us in a position to raid someone elses backyard as we fill the remaining spots in this class. If it happens, and I think it will, that would be a direct result of MD's approach and the success we have had so far.
Outstanding job by MD and staff. Most excited I have been about MSU football in a long time.

Thanks for posting that Sam Webb article Rule S. I give him props for reporting the TRUTH. (Especially because his living and well being depends on reporting warm and fuzzy info. on SCum)

It's doubtful he would get significant minutes on the BBall team.

My thinking is that Izzo only takes three scholarship players despite having 4 available in 09 and that Sims will be part of the class as a walk on. Then State will have 3 scholarships available for 2010.
