Rivals 5-Star Academy - MSU
Rivals 5-star Academy set for Sunday
Free Article. Looks like a lot of Spartans and Spartan targets will be there including Edwin Baker, Larry Caper, Donald Spencer, Chris Norman, Dana Dixon, Delano Collins, William Campbell, Teric Jones, Hersey Jackson, Isaiah Grimes, Casey Blackport, Zach Matthias, Justin Semmes, and Aaron McCord.
We'll have to see if there is a full list of attendees. If anything, always nice to get them on campus. Hopefully some will stay to talk to the coaches. Dan Fox and others were reported to be coming up this weekend already.

Hope more midwest prospects show up. Great chance to see State and talk to top State recruits.

Well, I knew the other thread was out there. I hold the keys on "official" though.

I don't know anything about these 5-Star Academies. Has MSU held one before? If so, did it seem to have any impact on recruiting? Seems like a great thing to host.

It is an awesome thing to host. It brings over 100 kids to your campus and see your facilities. Coaches cannot talk to the players during the event but the other recruits, especially our current verbals, certainly can. And you can always get some to come a day early or stay a day later, when they can talk to coaches.

Nice article.
I wonder who was in on Sat or today to talk with the coaches.
Also, no mention of any out of state players, of which I had expected some.

I know the big OL from Iowa attended, as did DT Lendell Bukner from ILL. There were also a bunch of kids in from Ohio. It'll probably take a few days for the Rivals guys to go through the whole list and see who all was there. I know the event coordinators were VERY impressed and surprised at how big the turnout was (175+ kids) given the fact it was the first one ever held in the state.

Free article up on the event:
SpartanMag.com - Five-Star talent in Midwest
-The highest ranked player to make it to the events this weekend was Oak Park, Mich., running back Edwin Baker. While Baker is currently unranked, expect him to make a high appearance in the updated Rivals.com rankings that will be released later this week.
-And from eyeballing him in person, it's easy to see why he's a special running back. Baker measured in at 5-foot-9 and a very solid 204 pounds. The early Michigan State commitment definitely was one of the most well put together players at either event this weekend.
(I guess we can assume Edwin will be rivals 100 and ranked pretty high on the list).
-Joining Baker in the Michigan State backfield in the future will be Larry Caper, and Caper joined Baker along with about 200 other players at the event in East Lansing. Caper, who will keep his spot in the Rivals100 when it's updated, looked amazing physically. Caper is taller than Baker and just as put together build wise. He measured in at 5-foot-10 ½ and 215.2 pounds without an ounce of fat on him.
-Future four-star prospect Chris Norman of Detroit Renaissance definitely looked the part, coming in at 6-foot-2 ½ and 219 pounds. Donald Spencer of Ypsilanti, Mich., also passed the eyeball test, measuring in two whole inches taller than previously listed. Spencer has continued to sprout up and is now 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds. The added size should definitely help him prove he's one of the Midwest's better receivers.
Wow I am pumped up for all our commitments all over again Great job Dantonio!!! I couldn't be any happier than how we are doing right now. Keep up the great job and bringing in the stud recruits!!!!!

Spencer now 6'4... 2 inches taller and 12 lbs heavier than listed, both RB's seem to be huge, and Norman has the frame to be a beast! This class is getting me more and more excited.

This section caught my eye:
"Buckner was an interesting attendee because he is committed to Illinois, but he decided after the Rivals.com event to spend some time at Michigan State."
Of course, I have no clue how good of a player this kid is, but If he's this early of a B11 commitment I'd have to imagine he's solid at worst.

I'd think that a 6'4 325 HS Jr. would get the attention of most coaches

Big dude for sure. Committed to Illinois, but with Illinois, Wisconsin, Colorado, Michigan State offers...I would have made an entry for him but he committed so early it seemed like a waste.
