nice to see the Spartans beat his home team yesterday and continue to convince him that he needs to wear the Green and White

I think that it's easy to see that MSU is the team for Barrent. MSU is a team on the rise, has a good engineering program, offers playing time, and is bringing in a top class that in a couple years should be able to compete with any team in the country. I think Barrent is the most important recruit in this class. He cold start pretty soon if he is as good as advertised.
I think the oline in a few years with Barrent, Reynolds , Klatt, Ruehland, and Woods will be one of the better lines in the country. Add in our skill players and this will be one of the best offenses. I hope that we can lannd Savage in 2010 for the oline too.

None that I've heard of. I think he's concerned with instate school and all. I think Barrent will be at MSU 100%. The future looks too bright for a commit to not want to be here.

Not that have been reported, but at the same time, this was an important win because a loss would've resulted in the hundreds of Hawkeye fans he sees everyday suddenly have some new and very applicable talking points to sway him back to Iowa City.

I gotta disagree with this whole idea...the kid undoubtedly still has Hawkeye fans giving him the business all the time. Plus, even if we would have lost, I am sure he would be solid.
This kid committed to MSU for more than just a winning record. He did so before this season even started....I am sure the switch had more to do with the seeming anarchy of the Iowa program at this time. Just my opinion.

I agree - it will help to have the victory vs Iowa and keeping their program down. Iowa was the school he grew up with and would get a lot of pressure to stay home. However, Ferenz is starting to get a lot of heat (from the fans that I hear) so this helps.

it has to help..plus the uncertainty of Ferenz staying as HC is hanging out there.

Is there really uncertainty? I think he's had opportunities and hasn't jumped yet. There may have been a few dumb fans rumbling about getting him out of there after the last few seasons, but that's ridiculous. The guy has done a great job there. I can't believe there is any doubt that he'll be there for a few more years at least, unless the NFL were to come calling. Have they come calling before? He may have already passed on that one too for all I know.
Either way, the kids going to be hearing it from people all the time and when he goes home he's going to hear it then as well. It's natural. I go back and forth with my cousin all the time because he went to scUM.

hell of a lot more uncertainty than here! media mentions him being in the hot seat all the time. vs. MSU as an up incoming growing program.

No reason known for any uncertainty other than that he was originally committed to Iowa and he lives there. The main reason for any speculation imo is that he is a very important recruit for this class, maybe the most important. We have great skill players committed in this class and we need the oline to dominate to achieve the level of success we all want. He's best oline state has had, as far as recruit rankings, in five years. He was at the ND game this season and saw what he can be apart of.
Ferenz is a good coach, but the program is definitely on the decline. He has lost control as far as discipline with the players and this is not the same program it was a few years ago. MSU is a rising program and Barrent is a key recruit to continued success for our program.

Barrent already committed to Iowa due to the pressure. He changed his mind and decided on MSU.
For an Iowa kid to make that move is bold, he won't change it back. His heart isn't at Iowa, it's at MSU. That is all I need to know.

What we do know is that it sure doesn't hurt to beat Iowa and keep them down. It pretty much eliminated any chance if him ever going there.

Booty graduated a year earlier, which put him in an earlier class than he otherwise would have been. Which is what I said.

looks like Barrent is getting a bump in ratings. Now a 6.0 which puts him in the Rivals100 when updated on Wednesday.

Nice. I can't wait to see this offensive line in a few years with the skill players to go with it. Congrats to him for being in the top 100 where he belongs.

Nice move up!
David Barrent is now #80. Along with Edwin Baker at 41 that gives 2 future Spartans in the Top 100. Not bad!
